A local knife store here got the Condor line recently. I was wondering which Condor machete you favour, and why. I might also grab the Hudson Bay Camp.

I have a Boomslang. Not a machete, but a large knife. I love it. It did take some edge work though to get it to cut & chop the way i like. Condor makes a good product for the price. This is not really the forum for that though. I also have an Ontario 18" & 12" machete, which i like very much.

Thanks bud. Yes I may have misplaced this question to a greater or lesser degree. Actually what I am trying to do is figure out what tools to bring along on a canoe trip. The area is remote and isolated and my buddy and I will be clearing bush in some spots. Here is the pic that he sent me.

I have a heavy axe (too much weight), Hawks (possibility), a C.S. Mag Kukri which I will take unless I go for a new Condor or two. Because in the back of my mind I was thinking that the Condor Golok could double as a machete\semi tomahawk. Weight is a consideration as it will be a camping\site semi clearing trip. A break down bow swede saw may also come along....or not. I have been to this region many times before so I know what's coming. I think that I'm trying to figure out what to take...and get a new toy or two. :D

I've got the El Salvador, Eco Survivor, Golok, Khukri and Bolo. The Bolo is the best allaround performer I think, long straight edge for battoning and drawknifing, working point, false grind for digging, raking brush or coals etc, weight forward design for efficient chopping. It's alot of muscle in a small package. And a resounding HECK YES to getting the Hudson Bay knife. Mine is the bomb-very classy lookin' too.

My personal favorites remain the Viking and the Bush Knife. Other good choices would be the El Salvador, the Bolo, Thai Enep Machete, or even the new Tapanga. The Tapanga is around 2.4 lbs, but would stash easily in a canoe, hits like an axe, and would be handy for draw/push knifing. I always appreciate the reach of a 20" blade, but some of the other options are a bit more compact.

For some reason I really, really want a speed bowie, but being reasonable a bolo 15" could be all you ever need.
Best Regards

The speed bowie is awesome. The curvature of the handle makes it chop outside its weight class.:thumbup:

Thank you all for the informative replies. I did take an interest in the Viking. I'll go back and check it out again, along with the other suggestions.

It's AWESOME. Great reach (handy for dealing with briars) lots of chopping power concentrated at the end of the blade, and the sharpened back edge is good for light green targets like grasses and woody stemmed plants. It'll handle tree felling nicely too. :D

The bolo is my favorite. It can do just about everything I need out there. It is a good chopper, as well as good at clearing brush. I'd say that and a small knife and I would be about set for anything I needed.

Thai Enep machete .

The leather sheath would SUCK to get wet in a canoe tho. A machete with a nylon sheath would be better.

The first time I saw it in their new line-up, I wanted to get it. It reminds me of the traditional tools we have over here.

Bearthedog/Reuben's bolo pics show this very well

Nah--just spray it down with some leather waterproofer. It'll do fine. :)

I just received the 18" Eco in carbon and LOVE it. I thought I had seen it all from condor, but the handles are so damn good, I am going to get the others in the line. I really want the Bolo now!

The handle on the Eco/El Salvador IS especially nice, isn't it? Very comfortable AND versatile.
