What show(s) do you attend, and what is it you like about it(them)?
It would be interesting to read the perspectives of both collectors and cutlers:thumbup::cool:

Blade, because Blade. Then Little Rock - more than worth the long distance flight.

Fisk Micro Show! Most fun ever had at a show. Best food. Have never sold knives so fast at any other show.

Then Blade, because all my favorite knife people are there.

It's hard for me to go to shows anymore, unless they are relatively close. Solvang is an hour away. The AKI is 2 or 3 flight segments, just to go 300 miles, so it's hard to do. But in order of my favorites, (independent of whether I can attend or not),they have never changed:

1) Blade
2) Solvang
3) AKI

And as to the why of it, it's all about people and friends, and of course, knives.

Favorite....hmmmm

1)Plaza.....relatively short drive, great makers, great friends, always find something cool to pick up at a reasonable price.
2)Blade Show....while I hate ATL, this is the show to do....there every two years for a while, in 2018 will be again after3 year lag, ALWAYS pick up something great!
3)AKI-in my back yard, best makers in the world, always a great visit, always pick up something cool, enjoy the unusually upscale attitude of the attendees, no overalls
4)Antique Arms and Armor show in Las Vegas-most fascinating collection of antiques that I have ever seen in one place. Great stuff, excellent prices.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Fisk Micro Show - Laid back, incredible knives, great info presented and discussed, as Jerry says "no question is off limits", fantastic food, fun knife comp, and only an hour from my cabin. Best of all, I could wear overalls if I wanted and not be judged
Little Rock - favorite makers are usually all there, right size, great knives and relatively close to my cabin. I think I could wear overalls if I owned a pair
Blade - things I like and dislike but it's Blade. If I did wear overalls, I don't think anyone would notice.

The show-within-the-show - The CKCA Banquet.
Good food. Great knives offered to the attendees. Small, close venue with good friends from around the world.
My favorite 3-4 hours of the year.

My new favorite show is the I.C.C.E. Show in Kansas City....45 minutes away and a room full of great Makers.

Let's get this guy some overalls!!;)

so, some shows are 'overalls' shows, some shows are 'rolex' shows, and some shows are freakshows?

Little Rock for me. It has been an outstanding show every year I have been there. It's in my back yard, we'll almost, I actually work 10 minutes from the show. Makers bring their A-game knowing the awards are judged by their peers.

Little Rock is a good time, it's just been weird the last 2-3 years. I'll be there next year for sure.

Is there a minimum size to what's considered a show?
i would guess there is not, as long as the public can attend. i am naturally lazy and hate driving so my favorite show is the NCCA show in marlboro ma. its the closest, around 1.5 hours. its not in the same "league" as the shows these guys speak of. only about 40 tables. some great talent shows up though, such as yourself, j.d. smith MS, jim siska, paul jarvis, howard hitchmough. and of course i always have to look at dealer paul farina's table at least 15 times..

AKI. Many of the best makers in the world and the highest quality art knives shown anywhere in America. And there are knives which are actually available and for sale.

Solvang and Arkansas are also good shows.

Blade rarely has anything for me anymore, as very few of the makers whose knives I like ever actually have anything for sale there. However, I am trying to go this year just for the fun of being around a lot of knives and knife lovers, even if I probably won't acquire anything.
