How did we get started? For me it was a Benchmade 7. Just looked different. Saw it on the internet at some now defunct site. Flat G10 handles and what was the deal with that grind?...chisel grind? I loved it. Then I went to the NY Custom Show in 11/97 and Les had a CQC6 and a Viper 5 on his table. I wouldn't spring for the 6 as I thought it was too expensive. So I bought the Viper 5 which was considered less desirable. If I only knew then that I was picking up a rare piece to get me going. Talk about getting hooked. How did other Suspects start down this path?

I was reading a knife magazine, don't even remember which one to tell the truth. I see a little ad, tiny thing showing a Tanto bladed folder.

I had been looking for my first custom and this was just what I was looking for.

I send off the buck or two. Got the catalog and ordered a CQC6. As he wait was three years, I ordered an Elishewitz bolstered Omega M5, but when I got it, it was just too damn nice to carry. So I ordered a . . . . (you get the idea)
biggrin.gif

During all this, Benchmade introduced the CQC7. "An Emerson production knife!" I had to have a couple. Well that was a disappointment. After using it, it fell apart. Screws stripped out, the blade rusted (bead blasted), ect

Years go by, EKI is formed and Ernie was making his own production knife. After the whole "BM" (I mean that in ever sense of he word) thing I was tad gun shy about "Production Emerson's".

A friend gets a Raven (Gray) and it's just a bit "mushy" for my taste. Next comes the Specwar, the blade width (edge to spine) is a bit narrow for my liking.

I mentioned recently that I went to a Carbine class and an, at that time, well known Internet knife dealer asks me is I had ever heard of a new knife that just came out. The "Emerson Commander".

"Have I heard of Emerson! Heck, I have a CQC6 on order!"

"The six is nice, but check this out" P O W

My eyes bug out! "What the Hell . . ."

I took a Commander home that night and have been "infected" since.

I have sense received that CQC6, which was AWESOME! and have purchased my share (almost) of Emerson customs. Never once have I looked back or regretted those first steps.

Almost ordered a custom Viper years ago after receiving the old line-drawing pamphlet, which I still have. The CQC6 is what caught my eye though, and prompted me to order the pamphlet. Missed out on a CQC5 for sale a while back, but another suspect offered me a 6, so I snagged it.

The rest as they say, is history. I've picked up a custom Emerson Neck Knife since then, a CQC7B, and a production LaGriffe. Hopefully in the future I'll be in the right place at the right time (which isn't now!) for a couple more nice Emo Customs.

I did the Benchmade CQC7, thought it was ok. Then in 1998 (I think)I picked up a Raven when the production shop was opened. I liked it, it held up much better then the Benchmade. Between the Raven and now, I was collecting other things. I was spending all my money on Heckler and Koch P7 pistols. My wife bought me the last one as a present (very cool wife), a P7K3 in .22. Well my collection was done. She joked that I needed to find something else to collect. I found this Forum about 6 months ago, lurked a bit, posted some.

My first custom was a 2000 CQC8 (got lucky), then purchased Joel's Custom CQC7 (2000 single ground). I'm hooked, theres no looking back.

I had a few very rare folders and fixed blades go through my hands (owned them for a week or two-ahhhhhhhh), when I finally got one of the original Rogue Warriors that was from the first batch supposedly made for Dick Marcinko. Black Oxide, Blk Micarta, it is a nasty looking piece. I carried the heck out of this knife, and I still own it. Even Ernies eyes kind of bugged out when I pulled it out of my backpack at a show. It is one of my true favorites to this day.

I saw my first Emerson in an American Handgunner mag. article titled "Combat Cutters" or something catchy like that. This was around 1990 or so. The first article on handmade fighting folders I ever saw. There were offerings from Reeve and Elishawitz, and several others, but that CQC-6 caught my eye as the most unique and useful design. I was working full time and hacking away at my degree at night, and a custom knife did not seem within reach. A guy at work turned me on to the adventures of Demo Dick, who mentioned the '6 again in his works. Benchmade came out with the 'authorized by Ernie himself' '7 copy. Well, phoc me! I ordered one immidiately. My desire for a real custom never satisfied, I got a Elishawitz (unique, two made) combat folder from a dealer at one of the gun shows I was working. Like John, it was so nice, I never carried it. Sold it a few years back, and ordered the '6 I have always wanted. Came here to the forum early this month looking to buy a '6 to enjoy while I wait. I may be closer to one now than ever, as I just don't relish any more waiting (did the same thing with a bunch of Seecamp .32s in the '90s) I bought one to enjoy NOW, while the rest were being made.

I started out with a Benchmade 975. I was initially impressed by the size of the knife and loved the tanto style blade. The fact that it was an Emerson design sealed the deal for me. Next came a green, green T Raven, and then my '98 pre pro Commander. I was so taken by the Commander that it was my constant carry until recently. I aquired a 2000 green G10 Commander and that is what I carry now, and also recently added 2 SOCFK's drop and tanto style, and the last was a black T serrated SARK.
I still have that 975, and carry it as a back up every once in a while.

My first carry knife was the Benchmade 975 which I brought at Gunsite many years ago when I was there for a shooting course (what else !). It was a customised one that was made (in very limited numbers) for Gunsite as a demo knife with the Benchmade logo and the Gunsite Raven one side, Emerson logo the other and skeletonised handles. As soon as I handled it, I had to have it and carried it (heavily) every day. It is now retired to my collection.

A few years passed and, being in the UK, didn't see many new knives so it was when I was back at Gunsite and being taught by Chris Carrucci that he showed off some knives he had. That was when I saw the CQC6 for the first time and my interest has grown, along with my collection, ever since.

My knives!

I first came in contact with Emersons I dunno how.. I just was looking for sites for knife people and after a while i just came accross this and this was exactly what i was looking for. Something like www.ar15.com except for knife collectors. I then ran through most of the forums and I saw a post where someone was asking about how the wave worked. I thought it was a cool idea and the commander was exactly what I wanted anyway. I was looking at a few other cheapos though. I didn't really look in to the wave thing much, all i knew was you could deploy it fast somehow. When I got it, took me a day to figure out that you could pull it out of your pocket and it would open... I thought maybe you had to just rake it accross a seam on your pants or something, don't ask. When I got it I was very impressed with it.. I still am

I have collected customs for many years including a magnificant sterile double edged black fighter with stag handle from John Smith whom I learned about from the now defunct Fighting Knives. I either saw an article in Fighting Knives or had my interest piqued by American Handgunner and Marchinko books. Ordered a Viper and subsequently changed that order to a 6 when the press about the 6 hit. Waited five years for the 6. Took it to a couple of knife shows and could not believe the reactions. Ordered an ES1-M before the ban and picked up a few other fighting type folders as well as other pocket knives. Easier to deal in than firearms. Kept up with production knives through the forum and got caught up in the whole thing.

I first bought a Benchmade 970SBT and carried for over a year, then when I seen the Commander in a gun magazine i just had to have one. I called EKI and ordered a 99' black-ti version and have kept buying ever since. my Emersons are as follows,
Benchmade 970 SBT
99'commander
99'CQC7B black-ti serr.
#220 SOCFK black-ti serr. tanto
#177 CQC7B with wave & green g-10 black-ti
Have on order a mini CQC7 with green g-10
and plain black-ti blade.
I called the other day and found out that
they still had serial numbered CQC7 waves
left and asked what numbers were left.
Ironically EKI had #178 on the shelf so I
snagged it because my other wave is #177,
I was astonished that they had the # right
next to my other one..........

I first heard of Ernie via Marcinko. Looked up his address, sent for a catalog, (in fact, I still have Ernie's card in my wallet LOL!) and was depressed by how much they cost (if I'd only KNOWN!) So, no customs. Then, BM put out the 975, so I got that. Then, I found this place, you guys passed your addictions on to me, and now I have the SOCFK and Commander, with more to come.

First Emerson, BM CQC-7. What got me hooked, picked up a CQC-8 at Les's table during a show. Changed my order with Ernie from ES1-M to CQC8. Now, I have it and I want more!

My first Emerson was a SOCFK. Actually, I was looking around for more info on the CQC7B, saw the Commander and liked it, then read all the info I needed on this site about the SOCFK. I was so excited about getting the knife that my girlfriend got it for me for Christmas.
Got bitten by the bug real good. I now have a La Griffe around my neck too.
Still deciding whether to get the Commander. I know, I know...

Yeah...the first one was a Benchmade CQC-7, the smaller one. I don't pay attention to all of them BM Numbers, makes a Man's head start to spin. The small one. Partially serrated.

In June of 1998 I met a man at a local knife shop...he had a Black-Ti Commander.

I had seen it advertised and was like, "OK, that might work or it might get caught up in the pocket."

Seeing is believing.

He showed it to me as he was just back from the Blade Show in the beginning of June (98) and I spent the next couple of weeks tracking a Commander down. I found one Dealer in Florida that advertised in Tactical Knives Magazine (not Earl S.) and had them ship me one C.O.D.

It was Commander, Satin #133. [Insert crying, bawling and squawling now].

That was in July of 1998.

From that day on, I have flown 4 times, twice to Atlanta for the Blade Show in 1999 and 2000, and twice back. I have been in Courthouses a couple of times, and a few Government Buildings that I could not take a Commander.

Let's say there have been 12 times when I have not had a Commander in my pocket and for no longer than say three hours in each instance. Since July 1998.

I sold and traded alot of Folders that August and September following. Benchmades, Spydercos and Cold Steel. Nothing is quite the same as an Emerson Commander.
