Sorry if this topic has been done before, but I'm at work and I'm trying to pass the time and I'm curious.

I think my first knife with a simple little SAK sent to me by my grandfather. I remember acting incredibly careful around it, like it had some kind of mythical power.

At a certain point in my childhood I was also given a leather handled hatchet and allowed to run free in the woods behind my house making forts and spears. I think that if I had to trace my knife obsession/affection back to any points or points it would be those memories.

Curious to hear what early memories you have!

When I was about 11 -12 my grandfather got me a machete that was the right size for me with a very nice sheath...I remember I never took it of. He lived in a farm and when i visited on vacations i helped with the animals and planting. I hated getting up early but he made sure I did.
I do treasure the memories of that time

When I was 9 my little sister fell in the water behind our boat. She could not swim at the time and I grabbed her and pulled her out as soon as her head popped up. My grandfather gave me a puukko for saving my sister. I still have it to this day and I am 31 now. It is in my knife case with the rest of my prized knives.
It's the one on the top.

My Father gave me Schrade-Walden Stockman when I was 9. I'm a nail biter so it's completely useless to me other than the obvious sentimental reasons. Stiff as a board, too. I once tried opening the spey blade with a popsicle stick when I was a kid and it broke the stick 5 times before I could get it open. Lol. Brings back memories always having to use some improvised tool to open my knife to use it. Good Stuff.

My first knife was a small SAK that my parents bought for me on a camping trip when I was around 6 or 7 years old. I remember thinking I was so cool with that little knife :D

Thanks for the memories so far everyone! Love hearing them.

They've caused me to reminisce even more. I must have been about 10 when I got a Schrade "cliphanger" for my birthday. I thought that thing was the COOLEST. It must have stayed clipped to my pants for that whole year.

my very first knife was a little bitty SAK w/ scissors.. I didn't have fingernails either, used to open it with my teeth.. until that time it snapped shut on my lip

after that, I got a case canoe because I could open it without using fingernails (or teeth).. I was in the first grade when I got the canoe

I don't exactly remember my first knife, though I do remember my grandfather giving me my uncles Buck 119 that I left at home after joining the military and is in current possession of my little brother who claims "that my grandfather gave it to him" and he'll not give it up. I don't mind being the bigger person though lol.

I had many more knives before the Spyderco but nothing worthy of remembering. Couple gerbers here and there and maybe some other walmart brands. The knife that actually started my addiction was a Spyderco Wayne Goddard Clipit, I bought in 2013 then from there it's been almost a knife every month or two.
