Top Folder List

I don't know if this has been done before, I've looked and it doesn't appear that it has. What I'm trying to do is this....get together a thread of your top picks for folders. If it goes well....maybe another one for fixed blades, neck knives, autos, etc. In any case it will give us newbies a quick starting place at least for folders.

The guidelines are simple......
1) Choose what you like, based on what you think is "best" for quality, durability, locking mechanism etc.
2) No explanations or justifications...just make and model.
3) That you have first hand experience with the knife. If you do not have a recommendation for a size....don't write anything. Just enter your picks based on what you have or have used.
4) Price is not a consideration.
5) Custom, factory...doesn't matter.

For simplicity sake, try to use this format (please?).....

3" blade and under:
1) Make and model
2) Make and model
etc.....

4" blade and under:
1) Make and model
2) Make and model
etc.....

5" blade and under:
1) Make and model
2) Make and model
etc.....

Let the choosing begin!

4" blade and under:

1. Chris Reeve regular Sebenza (working model).

2. Benchmade 710 McHenry/Willaims Axis.

3. Benchmade 550 Griptilian.

4. Spyderco Endura, VG-10 steel, fully serrated.

5. Spyderco Police, SS handle, fully serrated and 50/50.

6. Spyderco Military plainedge.

7. Al Mar SERE 2000.

8. Cold Steel Scimitar (a surprising entry for me).

Well, that's all I can count about now...don't know if I did this right or not! :)

James,

That's perfect! What I'm after is a simple list. One that is easy and straight forward to read, something a newbie can read without all the extra verbage. Then they can start researching/asking questions about specific models.

I figure there is probably a top 15-20 in each category that always pop up in these forums. Problem is.....the references are scattered all over the place. It's not meant to be the "end all" list...just an easy starting point to a long pleasant journey. :)

Thanks again James.....well done!

One other rule that should be applied is that said knives must not be discontinued (or at least recently discontinued). This list isn't going to help if anyone happens to mention that Benchmade CQC-7 is the best knife of all time.

Walking Man,

I think that could be reasonably argued both ways. But, because you still might be able to find a discontinued knife on e-bay for instance, or here on BladeForums for sale it still is worthy of inclusion. Also, it might have some bearing on manufacturer or existing similar product lines. That's just my opinion,

Now....Walking Man, list your picks! :)

Interesting thread.
Looks like a good idea for the newbies.
I make fixed blades but I carry factory folders along with a fixed blade from my shop as my EDC. Currently I'm carrying the bottom knife in my avatar along with a BM Axis AFCK in D-2.

All of the following are in plain edge only with the sole exception being the Cold Steel large Vacquero.

5" and over:
REKAT Sifu
Cold Steel extra large clip point Voyager
Cold Steel lg. Vacquero
(I'm looking to get a Camillus Cuda Madd Maxx in the future and that's an automatic addition because I've already handled one and loved it!)

4" and under:
Benchmade Axis AFCK
CRKT M-18
Microtech M/A SOCOM Elite
Microtech M/A SOCOM
AFCK in M-2 HSS
Spyderco Starmate
Spyderco Military
Spyderco Chinook
BM 710 in M-2

3" and under:
Spyderco Cricket
Kershaw Chive
Kershaw Scallion
Spyderco Native
Spyderco Calypso Jr. Lightweight
Camillus CUDA EDC

There are many more but this is pretty much the the favorite list roughly in the order that I carry and use them within the given category.

All the best,
Mike U.
