Okay, I have some questions. First, I work in an office, and while I probably should be wearing a suit and tie, I usually wear either khakis/jeans, and polo shirts, most advertising marinas or something similar. I usually wear a ball cap, my beaters are a Baltimore Ravens hat, a Nike hat and a Chevrolet truck hat, I collect ball caps. My kicks for work when someone important shows up are a pair of Doc Martens oxfords, they don't look goofy like most of the Martens I've seen, but they are damn comfortable. Other than that, I usually wear a pair of Nike ACG's, either hiking shoes, or trail runners. I like cargo pants, I can carry more crap, I have some BDU's from Sunny's Surplus, but I buy most of my everyday pants from Wally World, they're cheap, and if I get the right brand, they're very durable, same goes for khakis and jeans, and shorts. Coat wise, I prefer hoods, I can't go without them, probably something mental. For light jackets, I could care less what brand it is, as long as it looks good for work, and is water proof, I don't want anything ratty. Heavy coat wise, I prefer Columbia parkas, especially the 2 in 1 system, I have 3 Columbia parkas, one has the liner sewn in. I have a big parka sitting out in my truck right now, it's as warm as if you were sitting on a woodstove. My outside work parka is an old Moose Creek coat, it has been sewn up more times than I can remember, and has numerous pockets, I found about 5 bucks in a pocket I had forgotten about recently. I also have a leather jacket, it's in good shape, can't remember the brand, but it is in good shape. Also a Russian cold weather trenchcoat my father gave me, it cost him 5 bucks, a friend of mine saw me wearing it, and told me that it was the one issued to soldiers in Siberia  , if its true, sounds cool. Hanes covers everything else, and that's all I have to say about that.

My watch is a Freestyle Shark X, my main EDC is a SOG Blink, with a little Spyderco Ladybug, a great deal for such a small knife!

My wallet is an el crappo Wal Mart job, but it hasn't fallen apart yet. My money clip, I bougth it at a powwow, it has a buffalo head nickel on it.

So, question time, anybody have any tales about LL Bean or Cabelas products? People tell me Cabelas is cheaper than LL Bean, but their prices look about the same  ! I won't give up on my Columbia parkas, I'm still keeping them, but I need more pockets, my front side pockets on my current Columbia are crammed with my wallet, my keys, my cell phone, receipts, my SOG Blink, etc, and I can't keep track of everything. Yeah, I know, wah wah poor you. Also, I would like to get a wallet that won't fall apart on me, any suggestions, just your basic tri or bi fold leather or good vinyl wallet. Also, I used to wear the Airwalk dress shoes to work, since Airwalk went out of business, and Nike looks like they're going to get rid of their ACG line, any suggestions on good hiking shoes, besides Timberlands? Thanks.

Good thread SH - we wouldn't be here if we weren't fussy gear freaks would we? I'm fairly particular as well. The list goes like this...

Home

Feet - Bare
Pants - King Gee work shorts, heaps of pockets, comfortable and affordable.
Shirt - Optional but usually Hemp T-shirt. Hemp leaves cotton for dead.
Watch - Seiko Auto Diver w Silver Bezel (pre black monster) on gray rhino strap
Blade - SAK Soldier and folder of the day (currently Manix)

Beach

Feet - Rockport sandals. 8 years of almost daily wear and I can't kill em
Pants - Rip Curl Board Shorts. Boardies are comfortable to walk in, have good coverage for sun protection yet they don't create excess drag if I dive in for a bodysurf and they dry quickly - so I guess they do exactly what they are designed to do. I also wear them for surfing, believe it or not.
Shirt - Hemp T
Watch - Same
Blade - Spyderco Pacific Salt. I've noticed the scales on the Salt are grippy, creating good retention when clipped IWB on the boardies.

Work on site

Feet - Doc Martins Safety Boots. Heavy but comfortable and very nice on the feet and legs if standing for long hours
Pants - Jeans
Shirt - Hemp dress shirt
Watch - same
Blade - SAK Soldier and Spyderco Native

Work - Corporate

Feet - RM Williams boots
Pants - light wool dress trousers
Shirt - you guessed it
Watch - Omega SMP
Blade - Camilus EDC

Everyday wear:

Head: Akubra Snowy River or The Tilley LT5

A lot of times i just go with a snow cap.

Shirts:
I got a few t-shirts from
Rotten Cotton which i wear almost everyday. Very thick 100% cotton shirts and good printing. Plus they have loads of horror stuff.

I also wear my Tilley Long Sleeve Bush Shirt or a merino wool shirt from Barbour.

Jacket:
Barbour Classic Moorland Jacket

Pants:
Craghoppers Pants

Socks:
Either Smartwool, Thorlos or Bridgedales.

Shoes:
I only wear elastic sided boots now.
Usually the
RM Williams Yard Boot or Mallee Walking Shoe.

I also wear Redback Boots a lot. They're very light safety shoes and are just so comfortable.

Watch:
It's either the Tag i got as a wedding gift or a Casio G-Shock which i use most of the time 'cos i hate changing the dates on the bloody analogue watches.

Knives:
I used to EDC a MT amphibian but one of my lab technicians keep bugging me about it being illegal so now i carry a LM Wave and a BM 770.

Lighter:Windmill Delta
Phone: Nokia 6230
Pda: Dell x30 high

Wallet: Filson Leather Wallet....very good workmanship that i feel like getting another just in case something happens to this one.

Back pack: For the note book i use a Crumpler Base Toucher and for university i carry a Maxpedition Baby Condor.

Flashlight: Surefire L4

Honestly, I'd increase your wallet budget and get a Rayskin wallet. Tough as nails! I've had mine for two years plus now and it still looks like new!

Cabelas. Good stuff and they back it up.
Bean's stuff IIRC is OK

Eddie Bauer seems to be more like "Yuppie Sh*t" nowadays.

Filson

Tilley

Carhart (cargos)

ROCKPORT shoes can't be beat.

Pendleton - hats and shirts

SMARTWOOL - beat the crud outta Thorlos

My best luck with hikers has been Merrells. I've tried literally dozens of Danners on and just can't get a good fit.

Vasque are good if you have a "low volume" foot.

Wolverine boots are good "workers."

Dockers DO NOT hold up any better than wal-mart specials.

Sears carries Lands-End stuff which was pretty good.

Eagle Creek is GREAT for tough wallets and other "accessories."

I gotta agree. Cabelas seems to know what they're doing in the outdoors world. LL Bean is the yuppie wear-to-be-seen-in stuff. Not really practical, no matter how much they try to portray it as such.

Just about anything Columbia is pretty good. The Titanium line is impressive. There're proud of them price wise, but not as much as the North Face stuff. NF is good stuff, but overpriced by even Columbia standards.

Columbia has many hiking boots. Take your choice depending on what you need.

IMO don't bother with Cabellos or llbean, clothing wise, carhart and exofficio, shirts, pants jackets, vest, will cover everything up to biz casual. hiking boots, vasque or 5.10
casual footwear as previously mentioned, rockport, reef
I think Eddie Bauer gets a bum rap, yeah its worn by lots of yuppie types but they frequently have very good clothes both casual and outerwear at very good prices.

Wallets, I guess if ya wanna spend more the thirty bucks ya can. I have had good luck with under 10 dollar leather, only used for cards/ID.
Take a look at how you are distributing your gear, from the sound of your first post, a lot of us are carrying as much if not more edc stuff without the parka pockets.

For me today, sketchers (oh yeah another cas shoe that I have had excellent wear from) levis, EB sweater (I am not a yuppie, can't afford it) tiny nokia, vic compac, CRKt/lightfoot M1 (hey its a good stout knife and I just got it, normally I carry a MT amphibian ya snobs) Nealy Pesh Kabz 5 inch, cash and cheap wallet, Braille seiko is currently down for repair. Oh yeah and Ray Ban pred 8s
Oh, yeah and inova mini led, pry baby and ASP key defender with keys and matches

Its raining in sunny fl so there is an exofficio anorak as well.

Yep, I guess i'm a geardo too.

Today I had the following goin on,

The North Face ball hat
Oakley M frames with vented hybrid fire iridium lenses
T shirt form some random punk band
Patagonia Auxwool hoody
The North Face Apex pants in grey
Wilderness riggers belt
Merrel Chamelon shoes with Superfeet insoles
Suunto Observer watch with stainless strap
BM 942...saving my pennies for a Regular Lefty Sebenza...
Fisher Bullet Space pen
Samsung cell phone
ARC LSH flashlight with blue glowring
Leatherman micra on keys with green glowring
Apple iPod Shuffle 1 GB with Sony white MDR-EX71 headphones
Beater Billabong wallet...still searching for the perfect wallet...

Now that I am work I have a whole different list of gear.

As soon as I get my debt taken care of, I am getting an iPod mini, a new iBook with a dvd/cdrw, and my big big purchase, a Chevrolet Silverado, maybe a 2002. Lots of neat gear out there!

Today's wardrobe was pretty typical for me...

Hat: Barmah Canvas Crusher (khaki)
Vest: Columbia Venture (fossil)
Shirt: Stafford button-down long-sleeve (bright blue pattern)
Watch: Citizen Skyhawk Titanium
Wallet: Spec-Ops T.H.E. (black)
Pants: Royal Robbins 5.11 (navy)
Belt: The Wilderness Tactical Products 1-1/2" Instructor Belt CSM Model (black)
Socks: Fox River Cotton Crew (white)
Shoes: Reebok Classics (white)

It may not be the height of fashion, but it doesn't look inappropriate at my high-tech white collar job and it is very comfortable.

Silent,
The best wallet for under $30 IMHO is made by spec-0ps. have hade one for many years and cannot kill it. As for boots Ive been wearing several styles from merrell. They are the most comfy and durable light boots/ trail shoes Ive found.
As for everything else; snap-on ball cap, HD long sleeve tee, 501's , galco 1 3/4" gunbelt w/freedom arms buckle, case med stockman, BM 710 M2HS,leatherman crunch, aformentioned spec ops wallet, thorlo sox, merrell pulse gortex hikers, surefire M2 centurion, (in jacket pocket) ,nokia 6200.

Bosca leather wallets are the best I've found to date. Mine's been in use for a year and looks practically new. I bet it'll still be going strong in ten years. I like Cabelas clothing all right, although I've managed to somehow put a pair of holes in the back of my chamois shirt after about five years. :( Not sure how that happened.

As far as backpacks go, I can't say enough good things about Badlands hunting backpacks. I used one to carry about 35 pounds of books throughout High School. Midway through my senior year the seam of the right shoulder strap came apart and several buckles had snapped from my extreme daily use. I sent it to the factory in Salt Lake city, and they fixed it right up, and even replaced all the buckles with new and improved ones. They will fix any of there backpack's, no questions asked, and you most certainly don't need proof you bought it. Badlands gear in my opinion, has only one real competitor, which is Blackhawk, but there warranty is not as good. For boots, I recoment Red Wings, because they are everything a boot needs to be, comfortable, waterproof, durable and they will last for several years of regular hard use if you re-sole them once or twice.

today it was levi 501's, underarmor sleeveless shirt, emerson lethal edge t-shirt, russel athletic black sweatshirt, wilderness instructors belt, nike ACG hi-top shoes, wigwam socks, houston texans cap, licensed corvette leather jacket, extrema ratio fulcrum 11 knife, kahr PM9 in a galco IWB holster, 1 spare mag in my coat pocket, arc AAA in my watchpocket of the jeans, surefire E2e w/a KL1 head on my belt in a surefire nylon holster, punch mk11 in my coat pocket, spy capsule w/meds, wallet, rolex GMT11 stainless w/a burgundy and black bezel, college ring, and my gold herringbone necklace, was at my mother in laws today = bad 'hood.
