Your Impressions of the Spyderco Vesuvius?

A local sporting goods store has these on sale for $55 which appears to be a very good price. I have always liked Spyderco's, but never really liked the humped portion of the blade for the opening hole. The hump on the Vesuvius is much less than on other models. I have no experience with the compression lock, although it looks like a very good design. The closed length of the knife is 4.5" which is a bit marginal for pocket carry while not using the clip. Since I work in an office I would probably not carry it clipped to avoid scaring the sheep. What are your impressions of this knife, its lock, blade design, comfort while carrying, etc. Is there a different Spyderco that you like better? Thanks for your opinions.

I got one last summer. Typical Spyderco the fit, finish, grind lines are all very good. The knife comes very sharp. The compression lock looks kinda like an upside down liner lock. I don't think you need to worry about it failing - seems very sturdy. Very conforatble to hold and carry. Looks good too. I recommend it.

To me it is a good looking knife. I have not tried one so I can not comment further.

Here is a picture for those that do not know what we are refering too.

... and I was impressed. Initially, over the net, I didn't really like it because of the FRN handle. But, when I held one today, I changed my mind. The handle had a good weight to it, it was just a lot slicker than I like most of my handles. I love the blade shape. Compression lock looks good. My biggest complaint now is that it seems a little small for my hands.

Spyderco makes a great product. I don't think you will go wrong with the Vesuvius. I think that they could have fit a little more blade into the handle, but I can say that about some great knives(AFCK, CQC7...). Go for it.

My wife carried a Vesuvius as her EDC for quite a while. She only gave it up because I bought her one of the Ocelot prototypes. :D

I tend to prefer slightly larger blades, but I have been tempted by the Vesuvius. It feels good in the hand, the lock is solid, and the blade seems like one of those shapes that you can use for almost anything.
