Let's limit it to folders, too.

If you need a knife in a survival situation, and you're banking your life on it, what knife do you want on your person? Forget all the "depends on the situation", etc., type stuff. Pretend you don't know and you have to make a general choice.

Let's hear it. This should produce a fine list of elite, best-of-the-best, functional, productivity-based knives.

Spyderco Wegner. Plenty of strength, excellent all purpose blade, big enough for practically any chore a folder should be called on to do. Are you sure I can't bring along my Randall 14?

My choice would be my Spyderco Military PE (or CE, since I have both:D).

Why the Military? Besides my own personal experiences, I have a couple of great reviews of the Millie that can answer your question HERE and HERE. :D

For a survival situation? I wouldn't want a folder!

If it must be a folder, I'd go with a Large Sebenza. The reason being I could completely tear the knife down for a full cleaning.

Here's another vote for the large Sebbie. It's built like tank, is easy to maintain, keeps a good edge and is just the right size.

I'd chose a SAK Trailmaster or Rucksack, that way I get several extra tools as well as a useable knife blade....

This knife Steve Harvey just received from Darrel Ralph, because I'd at least die happy.

Barring that, any of the DDR 5.5" bowie folders (especially an Aftermath).

I didn't read the first post closely enough.

The strider AR is the single bladed knife that I would choose.

Productivity-wise, my vote goes to the Swisschamp.

I don't want a folder. At least not any folder I own. I want my khukuri, an 18.5" HI WWII. If money was no object I'd love to try a Sebenza or a Strider. Maybe a Greco or the Megaladon.

If it has to be a "survival folder", and it needed to be junkyard-dog-tough, I'd choose either a Spyderco Chinook or a SOG Tomcat.

If my life was on the line in a "combat situation", I'd want to have my Cold Steel Vaquero Grande in my hand, as I think that its' 6 inch-long blade (and 13 inch total opened length) would come in handy.

Yeah I know you said only folders but a hefty multi-tool has to be up there....Supertool, Powerlock, SwissTool. As well as a 'useable' blade you get too many other valuable tools with it. Just a thought.

I know lots of guys will mention the large Sebbie and I'm sure it's a great choice, but I'm with TBG, I'll take my Socom Elite. You can argue about lock strength, but I'll take the extra blade length and thickness of the Socom E. I'm sure there will be plenty who would take a Strider, or a bunch of other stuff, but I feel pretty confident that my socom e would come through for me.

While I know the Tanto version might have a little more tip support, I'd keep with a plain edge clip point version. It works for me.

If I could have a fixed blade, I'd take my Lile Combat. 7" of beautiful D2 and Micarta. Here again, I'm sure a CRK Yarbourough or a Busse Battle Mistress would be the choice of many, but I think my Lile would get me through.

Damn my life is on the line and all I have is a folder?! Arrrgh, I guess I'd pick the large Sebenza too. If I knew more about the scenario, I may choose something else. But the Sebenza is a great all terrain knife.
