I'm just wondering what you have in your collection that is the oldest piece of metal that is sharp? Not limited to knives per say, but anything maybe that was passed down to you, that the age shows.

I'm the first in my family with the itch, so I have nothing with "age" on it. I'd love to see what you have.

the bottom one is dated '67, the middle is '68. Those were two of my dad's knives when he flew for the Navy in Vietnam. The top one was given to me by a family friend. Its a WW II doughboy knife.

I was about 6 years old when my childhood friend gave me his knife. That was 35 years ago, and somehow I still have it.

Thanks everyone. Those are beautiful. Age adds a look that you just can't reproduce.

This is a slipjoint that once belonged to my Greatgrandfather.
I got it from my Grandmother in 1968 and carried it when I was a boy at twelve.

The frame and bolster are brass in onepiece per side and the scales are Mother of Pearls.
Bernard Levine dated it between 1880 to 1920 and made in Germany.

It's wornout, but I love it anyway.

My father's M3 trench Knife is what comes to mind for me. It was issued to him in the 1940s I know that I may have something older but this is from a family member so I know the history.

One other item that comes to mind is not a cutting instrument but I think it should be counted. How about a steel for your knives?

I have one that my father used back when he was ranching back in the '40s and '50s. It may have been used by my grandfather before that, but I can not say for sure. I would have to say that it is my favorite of all the steels that I own. Just under twenty-two inches long with a wood handle about 4 1/2 inches. The only marking that I can find on it is the name "LEE'S".

Since everyone else is posting pictures. :p

Grandfather-in-law (my wife's mom's dad) passed to me his Cattaraugus 225Q received as a pilot during WW2, also his 2 straight-razors (which i now use), and little Case pen-knife, all circa 1940s.

But the oldest blades i have, those I use hardest though less frequently than the razors ;) are a couple of scythe blades for mowing the lawn and cutting hay for the animals. I'll see about taking pics of the scythe blades, razors, and pen-knife this weekend, but here is the Catt:

Uhh a Crkt Ripple its 3 days old. I've liked knives for years but my parents never allowed me to have them but now that I am 18 i finally purchased 3 within a week.

No pictures, sorry. The oldest cutting instrument I still have would be the office scissors I borrowed from my mother when I was still young.
