My uncle was in the giving mode for this evening for some reason and he gave me a 4 old lighters and this ring that belonged to his estrange step-farther. Needless to say I of course excepted it and plan on at least throwing it in my keepsakes box. But about a week ago I was thinking of actually wearing a ring on a daily basis and now I'm thinking that by wearing the ring my uncle gave me it's not a piece a jewelry anymore. It's a gift that holds sentimental value behind it now and even though it's just a brass (I think) ring with fake stones ( I think) I would be proud to wear it. From what I gather online it either comes down to wearing it on the pinky or ring finger. Now it fits okay on the pinky, but better on the ring finger so it's really a toss up between the two.

Here's the ring, it has no name brand associated with it.

I'm pretty sure that if I wore it on my ring finger it wouldn't be mistaken for a wedding band because those are usually simplistic in design.

You could weAr it on your right hand and in the US, it's consider to not be the wedding ring finger.

If it has sentimental value, wear it on your uncle's jahrzeit. If you like the way it looks on you, wear it every day.

Hopefully not brass: nickel silver brass is used in musical instruments and jewelry and it is a common allergen. Show your ring to a jeweler or a pawnbroker, they'll tell you in a second what it is. If gold, it's worth about $100 and much better for your health. The stones could be diamond chips. Chips aren't fake but they aren't worth anything.

Wear it on any finger it fits. Henry Tudor wore rings on both index fingers and a left hand pinky ring.

Don't worry about the wedding ring thing. If anyone is interested, they'll ask.

Well I know it's not brass because I found a wear mark in the inside with a base metal showing.

Okay, it's gold plated then. The main stone is dyed chalcedony "onyx" and the side stones are not diamonds. They might be cubic zirconia if you're lucky, or might be glass.

No one could possibly mistake it for a wedding ring. If you wear it more of the gold plating will wear off, but not necessarily quickly. If it's good heavy gold plating it could last a while.

I think its camp to wear rings for men. It shows lack of taste and you end up like a chav. Thats my opinion though.

So I wore the ring for a bit today and realized that it would make a piece to go with a formal outfit.

Bingo! That is when I wear rings. A bought a month ago I had to go to a funeral of a friend's wife. I wore a ring with my dress jacket. I don't wear rings day to day but they make nice accent pieces when in dress.

I say which ever finger you want it on, and if you feel its more secure on the "ring" finger then shoot for that. I personally would wear a ring on any finger i have yet to get 5 rings so i cane get one on each finger, i only got 2 now. Use to have 3 but my tungsten one broke.

Don't worry about others. If you like the way it looks and want to display it then go for it. I wear a watch occasionally, but thats it. Just not a jewelry person. Heck, I haven't worn my wedding band for three years and am very happily married - going on 12 years now. Just seems unsafe working in the shop.
