Whats the best buy on sog knives under $100, are they worth the money or junk, what do you reccomend for a tactical carry.
Thanks

I do not recommend the SOG mini TAC folder. I bought this and returned it. There was blade play and the knife rattled. This first SOG of mine stained their reputation for me.

Most people here will tell you to avoid SOG altogether.

I haven't had any major problems with SOG yet. I would go with either a Aegis or Trident folder for a tactical knife. Most SOG knives are worth the money.

In Europe we would say: it is like considering a Peugeot 407 (European automobile equivalent of SOG) when you can drive a Volkswagen Passat CC (something like a Kershaw) for more of less the same price.

Avoid SOG just as I would avoid a Peugeot.

I can recommend the Twitch, Twitch II, Twitch XL and maybe even the Blink. They have a nice simple and clean designed, elegant even, have excellent fit & finish with decent steel (AUS8) and AO. I love my Twitch II.

I have the Flash II and although others may like the flash line, I myself do not. It "feels" cheap to me.

Most of their offerings are overpriced for what you get. And their goods stuff is way overpriced.

Don't want to sound crazy, but their 'good stuff' isn't even good. A knife with $165 MSRP has unacceptable blade play is unacceptable.

I have a Flash1 that is nice and solid. I didn't expect much but I've been happy thus far. That the only experience I have with SOG's.

Although I don't consider them "tactical", I would reccomend: BM 710, Spyderco Para and Millie.

A knife that costs more than $25 should not have blade play in my opinion.
I forgot to mention, every SOG I've handled has had blade play.
They're fixed blades are ok, but somewhat over priced.

Ok I guess I will go with the benchmade or spyderco , however I did see another that interested me and it was a SigTac Pterodactyl, know anything about those ??

I have had very good serevice form half a dozen or so SOG knives. Both fixed and folders

I've only one SOG...the Flash II.

I like it. Its not loose or anything. Nice ergos and its pretty sharp.

But...its not near the knife my Spydercos or Kershaws are...at around the same price.

Not sure how explain it...you can just feel it.

The knives made in Japan (Tomcat, Vision etc) very good...some complain of the high prices

Fusion and Chinese made knives have had many complaints of F&F and duarability. (I have no first hand experience with these)

SAT knives (Flash, Twitch, Aegis etc) made in U.S. are mixed bag. Some have excessive vertical play. I would handle in person to test lock-up before buying. When you get a good one they are nice

I've only had a few and I think they were all Japanese made. None had any problems what so ever. This is the only one I have now and it's made in Japan, also.
Huge knife with a smooth working axis style lock. I sorta like it just because it's big and bad.

SOG fixed blades are solid in terms of performance, but are overpriced for what they offer. YMMV.
