I have a NIB BK7, BK10, BK2, and BK11.

The problem is, I'm not a knife user as much as a knife *abuser*. So, I'm torn
between thrashing them or selling to someone who will take care of them.

Yep, I know they are "knives that work for a living". Still, it seems shame to
take a knife no longer made and trash it.

I would probably be just as happy with a Ranger RD7 to replace the BK7. And,
a Ranger RD6 to replace the BK10. (Or maybe an Ontario RAT5, though I doubt
it will handle the same amount of abuse.)

Your thoughts?

I personally would save them for the future, as I have several that are still NIB. If you want a user, I would go with the RAT knives.
I would still be collecting them, but prices have went to high for me.

Mountainwind, I hear ya, but I am *really* trying to get out of the habit of
hanging on to stuff for "some day". I have too much of that stuff around
already. :o

There is something I just like about the Campanion (BK2). Also, I have some
red oak laying around that is just right size for a set of scales...

But the BK10 and BK7 I have less attachment to.

I wish the BK2 came in a 8 inch version, with a full flat grind. Maybe someday I will find someone who can transform a BK9 into my dream knife.

What do you mean you're more of an 'abuser' rather than a 'user?' And define 'thrashing' them. Do you purposely try to destroy whatever tools you have in hand whenever you do have a tool in hand? If that's what gives you joy, then by all means, take the BK&T pieces out and have at them. If all you're going to do is chop, carve, baton, and use the knives in a manner to make them dull and wear the coating off, then you are no different than a lot of us here.

I've used my BK&T tools. Some have been used more than others. I'm glad I have them. I will continue to show my love for the brand by using them as they were intended.

The Companion is nice, and it is one of my favorites. If you don't have an attachment to your BK7 and BK10, you could most likely sell them both for about the same amount of money as a new RD6 and RD7 would cost.

Folks, please accept my apologies, somehow I let this thread slip
through the cracks:

No, I don't destroy them on purpose. I am more in the latter group in that,
by the the time I have used a knife a bit, it definitely won't be mistaken for
collectible.

Yeah, I will probably do the same. I just wince a little knowing that there will
never be anymore just like them.

Read some of the recent threads... Becker is back, made by Ka-Bar. Use the knives as they were meant to be used, which is hard. They are not now, nor will they ever be valuable collectors items. I am amazed at the ridiculously high prices paid for these things in recent months.

Funny you mention that, I just read that a little bit ago. I am behind on my forum
reading, too many irons in the fire.
