I scored 2 raw Aluminum Bumps the other day. Thet have sterile blades and absolutely no coating on the handle. Should I preserve them both as they are or should I keep one as it is and have one pimped? What is the value of a factory mule? What is the potential historical significance? Do we have any Antiques Roadshow fans out there who know more about collectables than I do? It isn't very often thet you get to pick the color you want a knife anodized. Anyway, your thoughts on my quandry would be appreciated.

Oh yeah, check out the oldschool thumb studs. Very neat.

Well, since you got two.....................tweek the one, save the other. I personally love the simplicity of the knives in the raw. How'd you manage to get unmarked knives? I've only ever seen those on the hips of some spec/black op boys.

Interesting. I see them all, and I mean all, and I've never seen those two. Hmmm...

I snagged them from a guy on the bay who claims that he knows someone who works for Kershaw. I was skeptical at first but when I got them they don't appear to be taken down to bare by hand or after the factory, the blades are bead blasted and the handles have a very even bead blast finish. Beyond that I dunno...

Very nice pick up!
They look kind of cool as is, I don't think I'd do anything to them. The chances of getting another one like it are slim (especially now that Craig has probably seen them:D).
If it came down to it, you'd be better off bead blasting a new ALBK, and then having that anodized.

wow.................not fair at all.................anyway, i think also that you should have one kept "steril" and the other have some fun with. STR i am sure would love to have a look at one

They look supremely good....is there any chance that they could be knock offs ???

These would be Aluminum Speed Bumps 4 and 5 for me. I did actually consider that so I brought out a regular Black Al Bump for comparison purposes. They are indeed the real deal.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Very NICE find, there! Do you still have my addy so's you can send one of 'em to me for a life-long evaluation?.:D.:D.

Considering the thumbstuds on them, it would be very interesting to know what the blades are made of. Seems to me that with those studs, the blades could be just about anything. Think they are 13C26?

Wonder if they are more examples of knives that made it into the wild through the liberal application of alcohol?

Personally, I'd keep both as is. You don't run across knives like
this everyday........Just ask Thomas. ;)

Oh...Spiral, you get my PM?

Interesting find.

If you're fairly certain of the pedigree on these, I'd keep them both pristine as collector/investment pieces. IMO an uncoated aluminum handle isn't something you want to carry or use anyway due to oxide.

I'd actually buy a Bump if they looked like that, sweet. Most the ones have really gaudy handles (IMO) and just look stupid, those are really nice looking, I would hang onto them and don't modify them.

I guess it's settled then. They stay as is.

The blade steel is questionable. I'd like to know what they are. Safe money is on 13c26, however, CPM154 is a possibility with those thumb studs though. Thomas, have any thoughts?

SVRider I did get the PM, Thanks much.

Just noticed this thread. Very cool pick-up Spiral. I like's em a lot. In fact, just seeing' those makes me want to grab another black aluminum one, bead blast it, and then do some cool anodizing.

Thanks for sharing the pic.
