I recently picked up a Sebenza from the bay and the seller gave me the wrong box, and b- day card for it......will having the wrong box and card lower the value of the knife?

(I'll get pics up soon)

For a non-collector, it's probably close to a non-issue. For a collector, I would rank the following factors that affect value in descending order of importance:
  1. Condition of knife
  2. Presence/condition of the original born-on card
  3. Presence/condition of the sheath/pouch (especially if it’s a of a style that has since changed)
  4. Presence/condition of original box
  5. Presence/condition of the other packaging material

. . . and for me, there’s a big gap between #3 and #4. YMMV.

A Seb on the Bay with wrong or no box will always command a lower price.
Contact the seller and see if you can work something out.

Were the correct box and card shown in the pictures with the auction?

I think it will affect price some and I think it will definitely affect how fast you could re-sell it. I would try to straighten it out.

. . . and you're thinking that CRK could assist with a transaction on the secondary market by doing what?

I am thinking of a new card with the proper information on it! I would imagine, them being hand written and all it is really not that big of a deal.

Seems easy enough, I mean it is their product and they already got their money out of it, regardless.

To me anyways, that is no stretch of the imagination. I have been wrong before but I have seen Chris personally give someone a leather slip because they had bought a knife and did not receive one in the box.

I was reading where CRK no longer re-issued cards, due to the increasing trouble with product counterfeiting. jiggyfly16, I hope you can straighten things out with the seller, especially if he/she committed to sending the associated card. Presumably, they would want the card to their knife back for the same reason that you want the one that goes with your knife.

If its a garden varity sebenza i dont think it will change the value at all. If it was super rare , it may change it some. I wouldnt lose any sleep over it.

First, I hope that you would never want to sell it!

Second, I do believe it will affect the price and how fast it sells. By no means am I a "collector", but no box or card is a bit of a turn off for me. Definitely would not be my first choice vs. a Seb with box and card. I don't think it would affect the price greatly, but would just bother me personally.

I'd try and sort it out with the seller.

Unless I absolutely, beyond the shadow of a doubt, til death do us part KNOW that I will NEVER want to sell or trade the knife, it does make a difference in value.

But then, I'm a bit of a packrat. Ask my wife.....:p

Good responses gentlemen. I was expecting a lot of "it's just a box/card who cares" comments. I do collect myself and I would be bothered enough to search out a solution. I'd say contact the seller and see if that works and if not CRK.
