im thinking of setting up my camp/survival knives like this:

this is my main blade,
kabar - 1277 large heavy bowie (9inch)

i would have this piggybacking off the 1277's sheath,
becker - bk11 necker (3 1/4 inch)

i wear this as a neck knife,
becker - bk13 remora (2 1/4 inch)

this of course is pocket carry,
spyderco - endura 4 ffg in blue (3.94 inch)

is this over kill? every knife has its purpose but it seem like alot. its under 2 pounds.

advice and input would be great.
thanks
allen

I would just take the Kabar and the Spyderco, but thats just me.
I don't se the need for three knives of relative size on a camping trip.
You could sub the spyderco for a smaller fixed blade though.

I've camped with just whatever folder I happen to be carrying in my pocket at the time. I see no need for much more. Especially a knife over 5"...

im thinking of dropping the bk13 and spyderco. i just cant leave my bk11, i love it too much.

i need that big blade to chop.
you must have a hell of a folder...

I would go with a custom fixed blade backed up with a custom folder.

haha.i wish i had that kind of money...this total set up cost me just around $150.

I'd be tempted to ditch the last two in favor of a SAK with a saw. YMMV

Agreed. Keep the bowie and get a SAK Farmer or better yet SAK Pioneer Harvester.

do you think a leatherman wave or tti would do as well as an SAK? it has a locking saw..

and what should i expect to pay for the SAK farmer or pioneer harvester?

thanks to everybody for the advice and feedback. its really helping.

I've never needed anything more than my RC-5 and my SAK Trekker out backpacking. But that's just me. Call me irresponsible!

+1 on bringing a SAK along, some of the new(er) models are really nice.

I'm always/still surprised by the quality of the saw on a Victorinox or Wenger.

For your stated purpose I like a SAK better than a Leatherman. The Leatherman is ideal if you need pliers or a scissor (depending on the model).

The Endura is pretty light, so I see no real reason to leave it at home.

Leatherman vs SAK? That depends. Do you like belt or pocket carry? Are you car camping or does every ounce count? How often do you use the pliers? I'll carry a SAK over a multi-tool. But I prefer pocket carry and find the SAK more comfortable to carry and hold while cutting. Some guys swear by a multi and wouldn't be caught without one. Either will work.

I think a med to lg. FB is a good choice. My current one is a Scrapper 6. The nylon sheath has a small compartment on it, which I have a leatherman or SAK in it.

I always carry a folder & would say keep the Endura, too. If you really like the BK11 & will always carry it, you could ditch the Endura. The Endura's blade is not that much longer than the BK11's & it's a FB, so it can handle tougher duties, too.

haha dude i bought my first wegner product like 2 weeks ago($90). and believe it or not it was a damn computer bag...thing is sweet thought.it made me wonder just how good their knives would be.

i really dont know much about multitools..so im lost there.

and yeah th endura is nothinw for weight, but the blade on it is unreal for what you pay.

I don't chop with knives:D

Right not my camping "setup" would be a Bob Dozier Loveless Drop Point with a leather sheath and a Doug Ritter Griptilian with orange G10 scales... There is usually a small fixed blade (currently a Hen & Rooster my wife got me) lashed to the backpack...

damn. see i dont really have any multitool. i ordered my first one last week (LM squirt ps4) and should get it tomorrow.
i have never had a SAK or a wegner, and this will be my first leatherman.

and really dont know much about them.

The last few I paid about $25-30 (online). None of the stores in my area carry them, so I don't know what retail is. Shop Amazon or the 'bay to get the best deal.

Keep the ka bar and BK11 and get a Victorinox Fieldmaster SAK (My local Academy has them) and you're set. I used to carry leathermans everywhere, but since I got that fieldmaster, I havent carried a leatherman in over a year.
