I am thinking about getting a headband forged from damascus so I would like to know if I olied it everday do you think it would stay in good condition.

You are a total idiot, and should post only, in "other" forums.

now that's direct to the point. :) but i'm curious as to why the headband? like a crown of some type? maybe if it was lined with leather or felt it might just work...just a thought. then again, i've been called an idiot before, too. lol's

In a little more diplomatic tone than Steve......

some of this stuff you really need to figure out for yourself!!!!!!:) :p :)

I think that's a really, really strange idea. Save your money for something else.
If you wear it often, everyone will think you are very, very odd.

In order to get a proper fit for your headband, it will necessary for you to lay your head on an anvil while the smith hammers the damascus to the correct size and shape. This will get old really quick.

But the upside is that your brain will be custom fitted to the damascus headband...which will be about 3 inches in diameter when finished if I'm reading you right. :D

Is this a joke I missed (probably) or have folks here become so mean to others. In Oklahoma I have friends that put feathers on their heads and dance around a drum. Guess that qualifies for comments. Granted this is a place about knives and not head bands, but to answer the question, it sould stay in good condition.

In Japan, a headband of the type that this lad is asking about is called a hachi maki.

They can be armored, and could even be damascus, but the way the he is asking the question, and the very idea of wearing one "around", is frankly, idiotic.

So, no, my response is not a joke, and I can be mean, and am so disposed in this case.

The originator of this thread has 26 posts. He has started 26 threads. He comes and asks for people's assistance and then never acknowledges the help he is given. He never makes a second appearance in any of his threads. I personally find this to be a very rude way of aquitting one's self.

I admit I know little about Japan or its culture, and this fellow is lacking in internet social skills, and he deserved a good kick. He had it coming based on what has been described. I just thought that when it seemed to go on and began to find humor at his expense it just began to wear on me the wrong way. I'm not over sensitive, or looking to help a stranger. Where I work I see similar behavior sometimes and it can get ugly. Hope you guys understand. Maybe I brought some of the job home today.

Some people just don't have any sense of humor. I haven't laughed so much in a long time after reading everyones replies to this thread! I need more! So don't quit now!!!

If the question is would the damascus be affected by sweat, then i guess it would depend entirely upon the constituents of the damascus. A stainless damascus would probably hold up better than one made of, say, O1 & L6. as far as humor is concerned, i think you would get a lot more mileage out of a damascus jock strap for example (although you would still have to contend with the same sweat issues...)
