Your Outdoor Library

Great idea Joe, here are some of mine....

Most of my books about bushcraft, wildlife, camping and hiking are e-books, but I've got a few real paper books. The SAS Survival Handbook and a number of Dutch language field guides. One book is missing in the picture below, that is the field guide that stays always in my car and which I put into my bag when I go hiking.

These are not outdoor books, but they are kind of neat, Complete sets of leather bound Charles Dickens and Mark Twain that were my grandfather`s from the 1930`s.

Stomper,

It's easy to tell when someone doesn't live in CA! I wish our ground was stable enough for high book shelves.....

A few years ago I Googled Nessmuk and was able to print his book off an internet site. It didn't take that long. Unfortunately, I "loaned" it to a friend and may have to locate that website again.

Larry Dean Olson's survival book is another of my favorites.

I might be able to help with Nessmuk... Send me a PM with your email addy and I'll see if I can send it you via email....

Anybody ever hear of the Foxfire series? I have 4 of them, I believe there was maybe a fifth. Anyway, these books show everything from what plants to eat to how to build a cabin. I highly recommend them. Most or all of the content is from Appalachia.

Nessmuk on its way Bud !!

I was able to get all five on disk but can't remember where I found them.. The hard part is printing them out..lol

A friend of mine bought that and it was good for quite a few chuckles.

Pictures will have to wait until I redeploy:o

I too have my own bookcase full of my "hobby" books. Several on bushcrafting and outdoors references, survival manuals, plant identification, etc. I also have several home-steading books and the Foxfire series and some "outdoors" medical reference (where this is no Doctor/Dentist).

Good topic and I wish I could post a picture of mine.

I tried to get pics of the hole ensemble but it just wasn't working out. A bunch of mine are in boxes until I really get organized and unpacked, but here is the bushcraft isle minus a few, and the creepy crawlies shelf, minus a few.

Joe- are you trained as an entomologist? That was my focus in University but I never got to work in that field, I envy your invert collection, mine is not nearly as good. Kind of geeky that I like them more than your outdoors books. I'll get pictures later of my outdoors books.

Sure am! It was my minor in College even though I had enough hours to major in it. I've got plenty more where that came from, but they are all in Storage. That American insects book is CRUCIAL!

How'd you like it Joe ??

It is a FABULOUS book. Unlike all these other books with pictures, each one of these was based on a HUGE project. Bark houses with step by step procedures with stone tools, and a ton of things that I haven't seen before. Steve Watts illustrated alot of it as well, and the drawings are straightforward and unique. It doesn't show just one variation of techniques like fish spears, but many different types based on archaeological evidence. Some of the chapters are based on projects that he has tried with groups too. A really neat take on the "primitive skills" book.
