I spent *way* too much time reprofiling my new EDC from the factory edge last night (the unevenness of the factory bevel was of epic proportions), and I got to thinking about what my perfect knife would be. I came to a realization that no knife (or knife combo) really fit my "perfect" criteria. Every one had some little thing or other that I would change about it.
Now, I realize that this is not going to be a static thing, tastes and favorites change and situations change (camping, EDC, office vs. outdoors, etc.). But what I want to know is:
What knife or knife pair (or triplet), would be the base for your perfect EDC knife setup and what would you change about it to make it close to "perfect":
For me it is:
Primary blade: Coldsteel Code4 (CTS-XHP clip point version)
Changes: Add thin micarta inlay to the scales (like a Sebenza) to make the grip less slick and change the pivot mechanism to something like Spydercos new BP washers with large ball bearing riding on stainless steel interface. If the change to the pivot would require adding thickness overall, then maybe just a pivot bushing and BP washers (the current double washer setup bugs me for some reason I can't explain).
Secondary: Benchmade Proper 319 (modified sheepsfoot)
Changes: Improve the ease of deployment with a pinch open cutout (it gets hard to open with wet or greasy fingers) and thin the blade out a bit behind the edge to make it a smidge more slicey.
Alternative Secondary: Spyderco Clipit Tool (the new one, not the old one with just a blade and scissors).
Changes: Use a different steel for blade and tools, like CTS-XHP for the main blade and some tough tool steel for the tools (M4, A2, etc.).
