I dont really see the issue you are refering to.

A maker decided to do a pass around to get their product and name into the hands of the consumer. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Also, there are plenty of makers here that have a homepage and provide links to it. Some even use Facebook, which isnt a bad idea as it is free (last time i checked,might be different for a business) and there is no better way to get exposure to the masses.

Now if your issue is are they an individual maker or a manufacturer, well that is a discussion already started in the GBU section.
