...For the sanity of the Australian Government!!!

In particular, the Victorian Government. I heard they were planning on banning quote "Samurai Swords" unquote and classifying them as prohibited weapons, available to only those with a good excuse and money to afford a license.

I'm saying this 'cos I have 2 Katanas, with a third on the way in my collection...

Tell me, what kind of a society is it that sees people with swords as whackos or criminals? :mad::mad::mad:
 
It starts with taking away everybody's guns, then they work their way down from there. Sooner or later you'll be limited to a 2 1/2" blade folder, since "civilized" folks just don't need anything bigger.:mad:

Sarge is right. If we lose our right to bear arms here it's all over.

Rally the good folks down under to put a stop to the loss of personal freedoms. Start shouting and keep on shouting (actually calling, writing, news articles, etc.).
 
These bannings just nibble away, with endless spurrious vague classifications so only a small fraction of owners get hit at once, so as to reduce resistance. But they won't stop. Pretty soon you'll have to demonstrate ownership of a fireplace and register to own a legislated "non-weapon" axe--expect bearded , double-bit axes and 'hawks to be restricted or criminalized first. You'll be allowed to own a short-handled one with a heavy, thick blade--you know, the kind that's least useful and most dangerous to the user--like the bannings of small fixed blade knives and locking folding knives in many public areas so only slipjoints are permitted.

I don't know about prayers but alot of curses were said through clenched teeth in the direction of the banning gov't:grumpy: Uncle Bill is right---make ALOT of noise, write call and harass them--let them know that if they vote to ban you vote for someone else!!

Sounds a bit like Nazi Germany revisited. A government that wants an unarmed public is up to no damn good.

As has already been said, You gentlemen need to make a lot of noise. :mad:
 
Once a politician gets elected on a weapons banning platform, they are not likely to admit the mission is accomplish and simply fade away. Instead they will continue to look for other items to criminalize and ban. It can be anything; TVs, automobiles, PCs, tools, chemicals, electric lights, whatever. The only thing that matters is retaining political power.

Pappy is right. The Nazi's banned all guns as a first step to power. IIRC that the United States 1968 Gun Control law was based on that Nazi document or, at least, contains the same elements.

This idea that Government can take care of the individual better than he can himself....twisted, pervasive, as difficult to remove from a society's consciousness as breast milk. Damn. Socialism is for our own good, right?

As a general rule, those animals with the tools to inflict grave injury upon each other are restrained and more stylistic in the mating ritual. Fewer fights to the death. Chickens, on the other hand, won't stop until destruction.
Take away firearms and you have.....chickens? This brings new meaning to the politician's promise of, "a chicken in every pot."

Like n2s sed, it's all about retaining power. Sadly, very unfortunately for all of us, sanity, logic and reason are not part of politics. Or rather, not part of banning weapons...

It couldn't come at a worse time. I'm now a part-time hobby bladesmith, so what's going to happen?

I'm reminded of bagpipers in Britain who have a sgian dubh tattooed on their calf because they can't legally carry the real thing in their stocking top. Outrageous crap, absolutely sickening, when's the last time you heard of a piper holding up a liquor store with a sgian dubh? I know it's just a little knife, but to me it's just one more indication of how governments are robbing us of tradition and cultural heritage.:mad: :grumpy: :mad:

With respect, I'll henceforth avoid this thread, it quickly puts me in a very ugly mood, and this is supposed to be a joyful season.

A TV ban would be great. Then maybe people would have to get off their &utts and pay attention to stuff going on around them.

My 2cents, which will be 3 in about a thousand years, given current interest rates.
 
Wasn't there a story in the Aussie press about a year back about a man sucessfully defending his home from a home-invasion robbery with a repro katana?

I wonder if that's what sparked this katana ban. After all, people don't have the right to defend themselves, do they? It's barbaric.

No insult meant to Tom Holt and Brendan, but every time I go to Britain and read the papers over there, I am amazed at how truly !@#$ed-up that country is. It looks like the Aussies want to follow their lead.
