Your preference in handle shape?

Wasn't sure if this was appropriate for the knifemakers forum so here it is. I'm putting scales on a knife I finished for a multi purpose hunting/standard use fixed blade for my cousin. I notice that most knives have handles that are flat with rounded edges. The ones I have done thus far have all been far more rounded than flat but it seems that if a person were working with the knife it would potentially turn in the hand whereas the flatter handle may provide some leverage to prevent that. So my question is, what do the knife nerds prefer? A flatter handle with a comfortable smoothing of the edges or aone that is round all the way around similar to a shovel handle? PLEASE feel free to post pics of what you like so I get some ideas!

Either make the scales thick enough to where they feel comfortable in the hand, or leave the knife as thin as possible. As far as shape, I like sculpted, contoured, 3d machined, or just plain checkered. Smooth is no go for me.

I guess my question was more Flat sides vs. rounded. Like the difference between say the handle of a baseball bat or an axe handle.

I think a knife handle needs to be ergonomic. An ergonomic handle will tend to be flat (or oval) than round.

I have found that an oval handle is both comfortable and controllable. A round handle that tapers to both ends is also very ergonomic, IMO. Examples of different comfortable handles would be the Emerson CQC-10, the original Mora, or the Buck 110.

I love my Becker handles, my Mora BushCraft Forest handle, my Condor Boomslang handle, my Ontario SP handles, pretty much all of em. I have modified them some for grippyness. I find my KaBar WartHog handle to be too big for my hand & i will be modifying it at some point.

Fallkniven handles; flat for the most part- just enough ergo, not bulky and still firm in the hand when wet.
