I am looking for a DEADLY SHARP 7" or so fighter style fixed blade. I have MANY. The sharpest being a custom Livesay UJI Fighter. I want something a little more refined, but it MUST have a RAZOR EDGE. I can care less about how tough it/the steel is.

THanks,

Steve in WA

I have quiet a few knives, everything from Randalls,Reeves ,Busses,Hazen, old blackjacks,Marbles, etcc, but the sharpest and best cutting knife I have is the Simonich Mid tech Raven. It has a very high grind with a sharp edge, the steel is tough as hell, and comes with a great sheath.

The (ATS-34) blade on my Camillus CUDA CQB-1 is really sharp, as is the (AUS-6) blade on my SOG Tigershark.

i've got a Paragon copy of a Larry Harley battle bowie, its AUS8A, but i've got it pretty sharp.....

My sharpest blade is a Livesay Company Knife, not exactly the prettiest blade in town but it has a no sh*t deadly charm.

Sharpest is my BK-7. If you're looking for "Deadly sharp" and can afford custom, check out R.J. Martin, His knives are reported as THE sharpest in the land and he makes several fighting models. Another is Jerry Hossom, big, sharp, beautiful, and light.

If all you want is sharpness, break out your favorite sharpener and get busy!!! Seriously, if sharpness is THAT important to you, you really should learn to put a screaming sharp edge on your knives yourself. It will give you a lot of personal satisfaction to see the hairs jumping off your arm in fright of your freshly sharpened blade...

If all you want is sharp, and you won't sharpen it yourself, I'd say get something from Cold Steel like an SRK or Recon Tanto. They come from the factory with an almost unbelievable edge.

My sharpest biggun...
Without a doubt, my BK-5 that I sent off to Jerry Fisk to have him put his mouse-shavin' radish-slicin' convex edge on. That knife is so sharp that the hair flew off my arms when I opened the package!

When you said 7" of razor sharp fighter style blade, I immediately thought of 2 of my favorite knives. One is a forged 7" blade fighter by Kevin Cashen with L6 blade, ground super thin with sharp top edge and really fine point. The other is my R.J. Martin camp/fighter. 7" pointy spearpoint blade of deeply hollow ground S30V. The reason I list it as camp/fighter is that currently the top edge is not sharpened, but R.J. left it thin enough ground to where 5 minutes with a diamond stone and it will be sharp too.

The two hair-poppin'-est sharp knives I now have are the SOG Bowie and the SOG Recon Bowie. Right outta the box, direct from the SOG factory, they were/are the sharpest knives I've ever experienced.

and I agree with AntDog: get busy with your sharpeners. What works for me the best: lots and lots and lots of using a steel, first one side then the other. By the time an episode of "The Simpson's" is over my knives are back up to razor sharp.

Cheers,

Carl

^^send for a catalog. check out the model 2. that's the sweetest blade ever.. it's partially double-edged too. woof.. sharp..

My ka-bar next generation fighter is f****g razor sharp! a nasty beast! In the 7" I have a classic Ka-bar that I made customize by taking out the top guard! It give the Classic Ka-bar a very cool look and the best feel in hand ever! It's cheap, proven and it's scarry sharp!:D
If you want something more expensive there is the Chris Reeve Project I...or Swamp Rat Camp Tramp...

I'd say get you some excellent stones through 4000 grit and get busy sharpening. None of my big knives were any more than shaving sharp NIB.

Sharpness means nothing if the steel is poor quality or improperly heat treated.

I can give you the sharpest knife you've ever seen, but it is a wire edge, and it is only razor sharp for the amount of time it takes you to make the first cut.

I think your question is meaningless. To have a razor sharp edge (that holds that edge without rolling or chipping) you need decent steel, properly tempered and hardened, and beveled to an optimum angle for your intended cutting needs.

That said, my BK7 was nicely sharp out of the box.

I agree with ANTDOG. If you want a sharp out of the box fighter, buy a Cold steel Recon tanto. It`s a crappy utility knife:grumpy: , but has a razor sharp edge:).

Yep, you can make almost anything sharp! Seriously - I can get any crappy 4 for a dollar knife at the flea market and put a hair splitting edge on it. That will probably only be good for the first cut...

Initial sharpness should not make or break a knife. I mean, don't condemn a knife design you like simply because it has a reputation of coming "not so sharp" from the factory (or maker). Just make it sharp. It might take a little practice and patience, but I guarantee it will pay off.

The true test of a blade is how long it holds that razor edge.

My sharpest large knife is an old big Puma Bowie, that I watched being made at their factory - maybe 30 years ago. I carry it, I use it, I have NEVER sharpened it. The thing is AMAZING.

If you ever get a chance - go watch them make a knife for you.
