What was your largest Spyderco accident?

My first and ONLY accident was sticking the first inch and a half of a AUS-8 Endura in my thigh while cutting up sheets of cardboard. We have all no doubt had accidents and out of an acute sense of morbid curiosity I thought I would float this question out there.

I once cut in my hand with a very sharp serrated Police. The cut wasn't very deep and thus it didn't bleed much, but I could see the tendon of my midlefinger. Luckily I didn't cut it, so the wound healed very well and fast.

Lum chinese. Trying to clean the blade off: tape residue from opening boxes. Slice across the thumb, big smile :) shaped cut, deep. Lotsa bandaids. Man I love that blade.

I was flicking a large serrated Centofante and I hit the tip of my right index finger. It took eight stitches to close.:o

Haven't had one yet, but it's jsut like NDs, there are those who have had thema and those who will in future.

Especially as I only carry spydies now. :)

I am also unscathed, but after I almost dropped my Gunting point-first onto my foot while practicing grip changes I bought a trainer (which I have dropped a couple of times).

Ouch! None as bad as you guys. I did recently nick my pinky (TWICE) while changing grip with my Gunting. Had my fingers splayed like an idgit. Made the decision to purchase a trainer then :)

Thought about what woulda happened if I had dropped it. My boots scathed and my piggys crying "wee, wee, wee!"

Ok,first time i ever told this...

Last year on vacation in the Dominican I brought my pink Delica, well a few days of sun and sand slowed the action up a lot.So I rinsed it out got a little w-d40 and began to work on it.i tried to flick it open, heard no "click" so I whipped it back up to my chest to give it a full force swing and opps..... guess it opened about half way after all, as I put the tip into my chest.

Blood soaked all across my shirt, blood all over floor, sink etc.

After I got it to stop I cleaned up the place.

The best part was a day or two later on a tour of a plantation,I asked to see the guides machette. He showed it to me and pointed out some small scars on his hands.

I pulled up my shirt and showed him my stabbed wound with about a 2 inch bruse all around it.:D

Yes I had been drinking,I said I was on vacation.:)

Cut myself pretty good closing a Centofante @ a NYC show. Had a bad cold/flu thing & was pretty swimmy-headed/doped up on cold meds but was NOT going to miss the show. Was handling the knife & got bitten pretty good on the thumb trying to close it. Gave the knife back, thanked the nice fellow & walked off before I bled all over the table. Spent a good part of the rest of the show w/ my thumb wrapped in napkins & jammed into my pocket.

I have a Native with a sharpened swedge.
About three years ago I used it to cut some nylon banding on a shipping box.
It took some effort and when the band finally cut, the point of the knife went into the end of my other thumb, about 5/8's of an inch, cutting the nail as well as flesh.
Words cannot convey the amount of bleeding.
I spent the afternoon in the emergency room, receiving both internal and external stitches.
I had to work the next four days, and the thumb took to throbbing.
The slightest touch would set waves of pain in motion.
Today, I can see the scar because I know where to look.
I have a little deadness in the very tip of my thumb.
The people who cared for my thumb described me as "lucky" to not have a greater loss of use.
Now, if I even point my knife at my other hand, I remember the accident.
If it had happened to anyone else, I would have described him as a negligent idiot.

Thank God that we are not a bunch of hemopheliacs(sp). Or Spyderco would be hurting for some dedicated people to buy their knives. I'm glad to say I've never really had anything more than a simple little slice across a digit and hope I never have more than such. Perhaps Johnson&Johnson should provide yearly profit sharing with Spyderco with some of the accidents you all have mentioned in this thread. Just remember its not the knife its the user. *chuckle* :p

I've had my share of little cuts from Spydies. Nothing too bad. My worst cut was with a Buck. Here's the story:

Bought a couple of SE semi-transparent Buck knives for a song. When they got to the house, I let my son have first choice. He picked the purple one ... uh huh ... In my infinite beer induced wisdom late on a Saturday, I decided to shoot some silicone in it to loosen it up a bit (OK .. I know .. but the spray was handy). Then, I decided to knock the excess out (blade down toward the back of my hand of course). Young son started talking to me, I looked away, changed the angle and proceeded to open up my left index knuckle. The bleeding went on for 3 days off and on. Should have gotten a stitch or two, but didn't want the scar. That one hurt like hell and took FOREVER to heel. Pure stupidity and carelessness.

I once bobbled my CF Police. It nicked my finger and fell to the carpet, bouncing off my thigh on the way down. I picked it up and put it away and a minute later I felt blood running down my leg. There was a 1" slit in my pant leg and a 3/4" gash in my thigh. :o

Endura 50/50 serration to thumb near the nail. crazy glued it shut.

I was casually doing a series of light "pecking" strikes with my Matriarch into a thick paper cup that I had resting on my knee. As you can probably guess, the tip slipped off the cup while I was not paying attention and stabbed me in the knee. The plain edge tip of the Matriarch easily punctured the skin and left a nice little hole. I felt like an idiot and ended up using some of that liquid bandage stuff to quickly stop the bleeding. Not a serious wound, but the only accident I can think of involving a Spyderco.
