Leverman..is that the North Korean version of the ever-popular Leatherman?
Seriously though,
When I make a kit or pick items to take on a trip I focus on the priorities:
Shelter- this can be as simple as a couple of contractor-grade trash bags, to a poncho or a sleeping bag and tent. Shelter is always number one on my list. Fire is a big one, and goes with shelter in my book. I carry a Bic Lighter, a small magnesium bar w/flint rod, and a trioxane fuel bar.
Water- again this can be simple like a gallon size Ziploc bag and a bottle of puritabs, or a filled canteen and canteen cup along with puritabs, fuel tabs, and some "luxury" items like tea or coffee, etc..
First Aid- simple like some duct tape wrapped around a minimaglight or a snaplight, or a full kit.
Navigation- maybe just the mini-compass on your watch or a map set and GPS.
Food- this is always last on my list, and can be jerky or MRE's that you bring, or a fishing and snare kit.
Obviously a knife can help you with all of these things, and my choice is a small fixed blade like a Fallkniven F1, my favorite, and a Gerber folding sport saw as well as a multitool of some sort.
Cordage, like 550 cord and twine are great, as is a few feet of duct tape wrapped around something like a snaplight.
Safety is always a big issue, so a weapon is nice and IMHO you should always be as armed as possible. One doesn't make an appointment to have an emergency
