Hello,
I'm rather new to knives and currently setting up different "systems". By system I mean the combination of tools you carry for different situations. I'm waiting for some things to arrive and there are always variations and improvisation, but here's my general plan/what I carry most often.

My geographical profile is village in remote forest area. Vast, dense forests all around which I can reach in a matter of minutes.

General EDC around home
Leatherman Skeletool CX and often also an ESEE Izula

EDC at work/out and about
Victorinox Pioneer

EDC when out walking, casual excursions
Victorinox One hand opened Forester

EDC when hiking and camping
Fällkniven F1 and Victorinox Pioneer and if I plan to work with wood a Bacho Laplander folding saw and a Gränsfors small forest axe

EDC when traveling
Victorinox Pioneer in pocket and a Victorinox Spirit X in rucksack. Maybe also the Izula.

Something like that would be the general outlines for my different systems. Things do of course shift now and then, but this is the base plan. The different systems are often accompanied with a Nitecore D10 SP flashlight and a DC4 sharpening stone.

What's your thoughts? Do you organise your different set ups as systems as well? What do they look like? As you can see I incorporate a lot of multi tools and use no big blades anywhere.

I've never really categorized my knives into 'systems' like that...I generally have what I carry to work and then what I carry everywhere else.

Work:
- Gerber tool and (occasionally) a Fenix flashlight plus one of the following:
- Spyderco Manix 2
- Kershaw Cyclone
- Cold Steel American Lawman

Everywhere else (select one of the following):
- Victorinox Pioneer
- Kershaw Leek

There is plenty of crossover between the two groups, though. I've used my Pioneer as my work knife a couple of times, and carry the Manix-2 or Cyclone around town on occasion. When I'm travelling or camping, I'll definitely include a stone, usually a small 800 grit ceramic stone, a flashlight (or two), and I'll chuck an SAK in with my ablutions kit as a backup.

I pretty much just keep a few items out as edc. They can be used in many situations. My current EDC for everything you listen minus one knife is a Leatherman Surge with bit kit, a streamlight microstream and a spyderco military. When going into the woods i'd swap the military for my Custom fixed blade and throw in a PSK,but other than that my EDC for everything besides woods stays the same. Sound like you have a lot covered. I used to just carry a vic. camper most of the time.

My system:

Work:

Zt0200 or Kershaw Blur or Kershaw Needs Work or Kershaw Zings or Buck 110

LM Wave

Everywhere else

Buck Vantage Pro

or

Mini-Grip

or

Kershaw Leek

or

Buck Alpha Dorado

And

LM Wave

:D

Sometimes when I'm hiking I might carry a Buck Paklite, or my BM Nimcub

Interesting posts. I suppose I am thinking about the various ingredients of capabilities, ergonomics and behaviour of different setups of tools. There are many combinations which bring different "flavours".

As you can see I don't use much in the way of simple folding knives as I prefere something like a Pioneer, Forester or Skeletool. I could be said to mainly alternate or combine a multitool, a small sheath knife and sometimes axe/saw.

Around the House EDC:
Leatherman P4 Squirt
Spyderco Endura ZDP-189
Fenix LD01

Work EDC: (only one of the following knvies, depends on what is scheduled)
Spyderco Military/Gayle Bradley/CRK Umnumzaan/ZT 0551/XM-18
Leatherman Supertool 300
Fenix LD10

Weekend Movie/Date Night EDC:
Centofante IV or Kershaw Leek D2 CB
Matriarch SE
Leatherman P4 Squirt

Hiking EDC:
Spyderco BushcraftUK (Spalted Maple Burl) or Busse SCABS LE
Spyderco Endura SE
Izula or HEST (back ups rotate)

This is a basic outline. It's kind of hard to choose a knife in the morning at times.

I have no real system. Whatever I carry for the day stays with me throughout the day, week, or month, until I change it up.

The only thing that might sound like a system is that I carry a large, tactical style folder in my right front pocket, with nothing else in that pocket, and a medium sized slipjoint in my left pocket, along with change.

A LOT of times I may change up the large folder, but never touch the slipjoint. Currently I'm carrying a Steel Warrior Cigar Whittler as my slipjoint, and a custom John W Smith Extreme SD-3 as my large (4.5" blade) folder.

I gots knives that are small enough to be legal at work.
I pick out one every weekday morning to carry at work.

I gots knives that aren't but that I like to carry.
I pick out one in the evening to carry at night. I also pick one of these if I'm not going to work.

That's my system.

home, work, around: BM mini grip, vic cadet, preon 2
When I get my 890 torrent it probably will replace the mini grip for going out.
Camping I will carry my bk11, laplander, and cadet. Not that I wont take other blades however that is what I will have on my person.
