Thx, GUS
I was looking at Harsey Hunter since i like the shape and also on Becker BK-10 but i don't like the shape that much( i know u ALL looove Becker (bk7 and so on) in this forum) so please tell me about Gerber more instead...
Thanks...

I have consistently been pleased with the quality that Gerber provides in their price level. The Gator series are some of the finest pure "working knives" on the planet. I have a crazy friend who owns one of the full-size Gators; I've seen him do things with that knife that I wouldn't ask of any folder and it's still going strong.

I'm not familiar with the particular model that you're asking about, but I've found that the mystery steels that Gerber puts in their lower priced products will work just fine for most people.

Will it hold an edge as well as the "super steels"? No.

Would it chop through bricks and then shave hair? Almost certainly not.

It will provide a highly corrosion resistant tool that will keep a decent edge and sharpen up in a matter of seconds, all at a moderate price point.

If you like the design I'd say go for it.

Only folder I've abused more than my Gator is my Buck Goliath, and both are still working great with TIGHT lockup.

Well, Buck is chewed up on back of handle from using it as hammer to break off stripped out screws, but knife part still works great. :)

I've always been happy with gerber products for the price.

thx for quick explanation...
BTW here is a link to look at Harsey Hunter:
http://store.knifecenter.com/pgi-Product Spec?GB5981,
the thing that keeps me from buying this knife is very little information about it....i searched as much as i could and still nobody knows the steel that it's made out of nor blade thickness which is also important for camp chores like cooking...
i thought it's a cheap steel and they put out this model to see if people like it so they could use better steel if public demands...sort of like a test knife...so in this knife the steel bothers me.....

NOW in BK-10 i don't exactly like the shape but can live with it if it performes well...i know it's heavy use knife but i need to know how does BK-10 serves for camp chores and mainly cooking; like cutting meat or onions ???
Thank you guys....

i'm very keen on the Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn Combat Folder.
always thought it was a damn fine knife, with a feeling of confidence. I can't say off hand i've held any others by Gerber, but i don't think i'd hesitate to own one.

I have owned 2 or 3 Gators and have found them to be a decent knife for the price. Add a pocket clip and a thumb stud and it would be much better. I have also owned 2 EZ-Outs and 2 of their small zytel folders. (I can't remember what they are called.) The small zytel ones fell apart quickly but the EZ-Outs held up ok. I really like their mulit-tools and have been carrying one for years.

Overall, I think they are decent knives for what you pay. Gerber seems to be adding a lot of "nicer" knives to their line up. I think they have some G-10 models with 154CM for those seeking a little higher performance/quality.

My Gerber collection includes an LST, Mark II, Command I, Patriot, FSII and most recently, a Yari. Other than the LST and Yari, all of them are pre-Fiskars era knives, and at the time I bought them Gerber held down the high end of the production knife spectrum.

Post Fiskars, and prior to the Spectre, Yari and Air Ranger knives, I was convinced Gerber was destined for obscurity - none of the Fiskars era folders compared well to the earlier Paul or Folding Sportsman folders. Not to say they weren't decent working knives, but they offered little if any performance advantage over similar knives in their price category.

It looks like they're back in action though - they have a lot more competition now, but there's little doubt they're serious about making affordable, quality knives. I'm much more confident recommending Gerber now than I would have been two or three years ago.

I like my Gerber Chameleon II and my Multi tool ok but I sold my AR 3.5 with the 440A steel and I believe it was made in Taiwan. I believe that the Gator is 154CM steel.

Have a medium gator, been going strong, been used as a pencil sharpener by my wife for 5 years running, havent even sharpened it.

Really pleased with the Gerber CrossLock, the one with the Drop point and the serrated sheepsfoot. Nice big handle, smooth action, nice liner lock. A bit heavy, but it is actually two knives inn one. Althought the handle is plastic, I've used it to break ice with no damage. The steel is some kinda Hi-carbon-takes a razor edge.

I know that you didn't want to read this, but my Gerber Yari IS the knife!...That 154CM steel is EXCELLENT, and the linen micarta handle feels great. This Yari has a balance and "feel" to it that just can't be beat.

So there...:).
