for EDC.
Is a standard s30v the best "bang for the buck", considering sharpness, edge retention and ease of sharpening,
with ease of touch up being significant.
While I have others in my EDC rotation,I keep putting this back in my pocket when I go to work in the morning M-F,
it just seems to fit my daily work requirements best.
I'm curious to see if a steel upgrade might be in order.

I guess that would be after I try a Gayle Bradley though...

Your feedback is appreciated.

I carry a Blue M390 para 2, and I really like the steel. It holds an edge great and its actually pretty easy to touch up too. I don't own a s30v paramilitary 2, but I have other spydercos in that steel and it's nothing to complain about!

I think it is best bang for the buck considering sharpness, edge retention and price. I don't have any problem sharpening it but some people say it can be difficult.

In short, yes.

That's a good one but considering how much those go for well IMO they don't fall into the best bang for the buck category..

And yes I think the the best bang for the buck para2 is the S30V version..

If you can catch one when it's in stock at a nice discount price, the S30V version (any of them) is a really great knife for a really great price.

Without regard to price, my favorites are the Green 204P and original Carbon Fiber S90V versions, but the S30V is 90%+ of the performance for a fraction of the price.

The s30v version is also the best "bang for the buck" from the standpoint of, it you break/damage it while under heavy use, it's relatively easy to replace. I try to use all my knives equally but I know it would be painful to see a sprint run PM2 suffer damage, which I wouldn't be as upset about if it happened on my s30v one.

Yep, the S30v is the best bang for the buck. Even at the original non-secondary markup prices for the other steel options you're paying quite a bit for the upgraded steel. That said I EDC mostly a 204p model, and I don't find it hard to touch up at all. I think it really depends on how dull you let it get before you resharpen/touch up. For me once a week a couple minutes on the sharpmaker and it's good to go again, if I was really beating on the edge though it might be more time consuming compared to S30V, and the initial re-profiling you certainly notice the harder steel.

The only blades I've really felt started to get noticeably more effort to do tough up is S110V and K390. Those two a few swipes on the sharpmaker don't seem to have nearly the impact compared to most of my other knives do, including M390, S90v, 20cp, 204p etc.

I personally get a lot of enjoyment out of my 204p Para 2. It cost me, but it's the knife I carry most often, and I find that it stays sharp beyond all expectation. I like the green scales, too.

For an average guy just doing his average suburban EDC stuff, I don't think it matters much what steel you have. I know that some will disagree. But to me they all perform pretty much the same. Guys who use their knives harder, or maybe on the job, might see edge retention as more of an issue, in which case the "better" steels might be preferable. But I'm okay with everything from 8Cr13MoV and AUS-8 on up the food chain, including everything you will find on all of the Para 2 permutations.
