So I've been looking into getting a Buck Hoodlum for a while (as well as a few survival/hunting knives) and I've heard a lot about the knife. Though it was from friends that I'm not entirely sure what they know about knives. Can anyone give me their thoughts?

Was one of the look-out in my past trade- sturdy and have the reach of a golok.
The only thing i'm not too fond is the cut out on the spine- watched the video where they tested it with heavy load imposed and it survived.
My worry is that it will catch onto things , other than lifting your hot tea pot off the fire.
I guess i like flat spine knives with a clip false edge

I don't like the hook either, wouldn't see myself using it, ever, and I'm not a huge fan of the little "sub-hilt" protrusion. Don't own one though, those are just the factors I looked at when considering it.

I went back and fourth on the buck hoodlum too. Its seems when TOPS made it, they did it right. TOPS looks like they made it thicker and all around beefier looking. Also the TOPS version can be found for only a few bucks more on the 'Bay and else where. I too saw both sides of the "notch" argument videos. The Buck rebuttal video I saw didn't show lateral stress, which I think maybe part of the what makes it break at that point. (i'm no expert by any means) while some "baton'ers" are clearly just whaling on there knives with logs. In the end I went with the "CABIN FEVER" MMHW Bowie.
