I bought one of these knives ( http://www.elinemerchandising.com/GPM35.html ) for about $80 probably well over a decade ago when I was a youngster, and it didn't get a lot of use after I went to school. Just now dusting it off now that I am through with school and trying to get back into the wilderness, in need of a general camp/survival knife.
I'd be interested to hear what you astute cutlery connoisseurs have to say about it. It seems to be a pretty solid piece of equipment, and I tend to think that it would be up to most survival challenges.
By the way, it definitely needs a good sharpening... I plan to use my lansky system for the task. Starting with coarse up to the extra fine, in the way that they advise (starting with 6-10 strokes each side). Any recommendations against this?
Finally, I'm planning on using a 25 degree angle, but if any of you would suggest the 20 degree (I doubt any other angle would make sense), please let me know.
