My 2.0 in BW just arrived today, so I'll offer up some initial impressions as I open the package.
Plastic bubble lined mailing envelope arrived in very good (shipping) condition from "Moskva." All contents (knife/DoB card/Cleaning cloth in pouch, free extra pouch & paracord bracelet) were in clean, new, undamaged condition.
Knife itself is, to my eye and q-tip and without disassembly, clean outside and in. Alignment of all parts is spectacular. Fit and finish is superb save one "ding." I do see one, very miniscule scratch in the coating on the titanium scale near the pocket clip which is not at all distracting (even for me, a perfectionist). Only reason I see it is that it is silver vs. the surrounding gray.
Blue annodization on pivot, backspacer, stud and clip is uniform and deep-appearing. Carbon fiber is is flawless and uniform side-to-side. Pocket clip - which rests entirely on the "frame" and doesn't touch the lock bar - is firm but the tip is easily elevated with a thumbnail for pocket mounting.
The blade flicks with ease, speed and stops with that gorgeous "clank" that is difficult to descibe, even for us knife guys. (It sent an echo into the room). Lockup occurs at 60%. There is not the slightest hint of blade play in any direction, nor any lock stick. Easily cuts copy paper out of the box, but not phonebook pages. Blackwash blade finish is impeccable.
Now, on to some subjective first impressions.
Glad I bought the Black Stonewash finish. The grayish black blade flows easily into the carbon fiber and contrasts just right with the sculpted gray machined titanium frame. Yep, that gray waved portion is both part of the frame and part of the "scale."
Writing about scales, I am compelled to disclose a knife bias: I do like, nor own, knives which have a single scale or knives which have one each of the two sides in diffent designs or materials. I am compulsively symmetrical in design preferences. For me, this knife is ideally designed and executed
It is a large, heavy knife. Perhaps it was just my viewing perception on the FRWK website, but I expected a slimmer, less beefy knife. In particular the blade is thick stock, and the whole pivot section is brutishly bulky. I am not disappointed, just surprised (by my own misconceived expectations). The good news here is that the knife balances exactly at the point where my index finger wraps around the front of the handle. The weight distribution is perfect! All hands are different in size and grip style - In my hand the third finger rests on (not in front of nor behind) the bottom curvature (from the downswept curve into the upswept rear quarter). It's not at all uncomfortable, but doesn't feel like an ergonimical design. I tend to automatically move that third finger back just a bit.
Overall, I am very impressed with this knife! Buy it again? 100% yes. Tempted to sell (to buy another current knife)? Absolutely not. This one will eventually go to my Grandson.
Thanks for reading, BFers!
