We recently did a thread of the Top 5 patterns Everyone Should Own, and I noticed a tremendous amount of variation in the patterns people feel strongly about. This is not intended to ruffle feathers, but to compliment the thread mentioned above. Everybody here wouldn't be here if they didn't prefer's traditionals, so no point mentioning modern knives of all kinds, so let's keep it to traditional patterns you don't particularly care for.

I'll start ...

1. Trappers (non-wharncliffe versions)
2. Sodbuster
3. Cheetah
4. Russlock
5. Camp knives

 This thread could ruffle some feathers

Edited to add:
Hawbecker
Cotton sampler
WLST
Russlock
Easy Opener
HJ

1) Buck 110s - waaaay too blocky and heavy
2) Easy Openers - they ruin the ergos for me
3) Muskrats - two blades I love, but NOT both the same
4) Swaybacks - frame curves the wrong way for the way I use a knife
5) Canoes - like the muskrat, blades are too similar

1.) Texas toothpicks, just to small for me and feel to “delicate”
2.) peanuts, same as above, just not enough there for me to hold onto
3.) copies of the Buck 110. They just never looked quite right to me and never seemed to have the fit and finish of a Buck.
4.) elephant toenails, the pattern always seemed to broad for how short it is. Just doesn’t appeal to me.
5.) Dull ones!

Congress (I don't like how it feels in my hand when using it.)

If I think of any others I'll edit this post. :)

congress seems redundant
muskrats with same blade ^^reason above
peanut sized knives, if you want a small blade, use your pen blade and hold it easier.

That said I'll probably own a few of these from time to time.

The 2014 topic actually asked for the "must own traditionals", not "patterns". But folks did vary quite a lot in their responses.

The patterns worthy enough to earn a name, rather than just a catalog number, were typically successful. Many of them were made for 100+ years. I prefer to think about my favorite rather than least favorite. I don't like some figural knives like GEC's "French Kate" (GEC's name for a figural knife shaped like a lady's leg).

I own at least one of every knife on my list:
1.) Wharncliffe bladed pocketknives (but I love a Sheepfoot - the blunt end of the Sheepfoot looks "right" to my eye).
2.) Trapper (especially big Trappers like the Case 54 pattern).
3.) Congress - I love the looks, but don't like the feel of the curved spine.
4.) Pen Knives - I carry the larger ones (3") when I wear dress slacks, but don't want to depend on them.
5.) SAK - own a number, carried one throughout the 1980's until I went back to a Stockman.

Peanuts: too small and they bite my fingers
Mini's: ( insert whatever pattern here) looking at you Case Knives:p
Barlows: ( used to love them) they have been ruined for me...o_O
Neo Traditional moderns...nuff said:(
Peanuts: worth repeating, I just do not get along with nippy dogs:D

Any pattern with a wharncliffe (used to like the but no more)
Peanut (own one but it hasn't been out of it's box in over a year)
French Kate (just can't wrap my eyes around them)
Doctor Knife (too frail)
SAK (I have quite a few but don't use them (give me a Leatherman any day))

1. Trappers. I have a few, never carry them. Replace the spey with a straight edge and it might be a different story.
2. Muskrats. Improved Muskrat with a long sheepsfoot is a very different story.
3. Congress. Duplication of blades again.
4. Canoe. They look nice, and feel good as a worry stone, but a smallish spear and largish pen are just too similar.
5. Buck 110. Gotta have one, but it is too big to carry and I don’t care for the trailing point.

The above are all knives I have, but rarely or never use.

1. Anything with a wharncliffe blade. Don't have one, and never will.
2. Buck 110. Nothing against Buck in general, but the Schrade LB7/8 or 6/7OT are still available if one looks, and always seemed superior to the Buck in my opinion. Sure to raise a few hackles, but my opinion is my opinion.
3. French Kate, or similar without regard to manufacturer.
4. Any from Case in any of their weird "holiday" configurations. Never saw a need for a "Merry Christmas" or any other holiday shield or blade etch, to me that's unnecessarily ugly.
5. Did I mention NOTHING with a wharncliffe blade? Ever?

1 - standard trappers because I prefer different length blades.

2 - sow belly stockman because I don't like the severely curved end.

3 - lady leg for obvious reasons.

4 - muskrats because of the two identical blades.

5 - congress because I just don't like the looks or blade selection.

Loving this thread . 'Neo traditionals' Nice. I don't hate the lion steel shuffler etc, but they are basically the antithesis of the craftsmanship we all treasure in traditionals, despite their popularity in this forum.
