the reason i ask is if you carry it in your pack, and your crossing a stream or whatever, and you lose your pack, you lose your kit, too.
do you attach it to yourself somehow? do you carry it in a cargo pocket on your pants?

I carry two, a- mini kit on me and a more complete kit in my pack, I try to keep my field knife and my mini kit on my belt, I use a GI issue small first- aid or compass pouch to keep my mini kit attached to my belt.

Hey Mo...

Heres how I carry my mini kit on my Battle Mistress and Steelheart...

bussepouch.jpg

The kit includes

mini Hot Spark
snare wire
fishing hooks
split shot
swivels
2 fishing flys
5 safety matches
5 bandaids
4 small zip strips
4 large zip strips
2 mini glue sticks
2'X2' heavy tin foil
4 caplets of tylenol
4 safety pins
20' fishing line
20' Spiderwire
20' braided string
10' 550
steel wool and dryer lint

All that packed into a mini Nite-Ize pockets pouch..
Makes for a pretty cool little set up, but wish I had a bit more room for some odds and ends...

For a bigger pouch, try a four pistol-mag pouch from Bianchi. Brigade Quartermaster sells them for around $25.00, and I keep a Lansky triangular ceramic hone with a 1/8" ferocerium rod epoxied to it, 10 or 12 candle wax impregnated cotton balls for tinder, a match safe of strike anywhere matches, a tube of LSA, 3 small spools of thread, 4 needles, a P-38 can opener, a wire saw, 4" section of hacksaw blade, and a mini fishing kit in a 35mm film can, two snares pre-made out of trip wire, and 2 4 foot lengths of nylon decoy line, for use with the snares. Attached to the sheath itself is 50 feet of nylon twine, and 25 feet of paracord as a fob at the bottom of the sheath. The nylon twine is wrapped around the mouth of the sheath. This is for my Campanion. I wear my knives on a seperate belt from everything else, so they're always with me.

I carry my mini kit in my POCKET. Front left pants pocket that is. Another small kit in a 35mm camera case can be attached to my belt and yet a third slightly larger kit is in a fanny pack. Finally, my 'large' kit is my medium Alice pack. This way I should always have 'something' on me no matter what incident should befall me.

BTW, I'm looking at updating the fanny pack and much of my Alice kit to a vest if I can find a good one at a great price.
