I just bought another book -Essential Bushcraft, by Ray Mears. I got mine from bensbackwoods.com and it appears that Mears signed this copy :).

I've only thumbed through the book a few times, but Ray Mears WSS philosophy seems grounded in common sense. There is no shortage of color photos and sidebar stories. I like the strong contruction of the book and pages.

My only complaint is the topical coverage of information and ideas contained in the book.

It's not just common sense but common practice as well, Ray's skills were developed over time from a combination of personal experience, research & learning bushcraft/woodlore from various indigenous cultures throughout the world, what is your actual beef with the book... presentation of ideas?
