Yvsa has done it again. Here is the last broken tang 20 inch Sirupati with fully repaired tang and new and improved three piece buttcap. Guaranteed for ten lifetimes.

Dave, you are a lucky fellow. This Sirupati would have gone under my bed if it did not have your name on it.

Great work, Yvsa!

Thanks.
I am Honored. The blade was a lot harder to polish than the butt cap was to fix.-g-
This was one of the ones the Kamis polished out and then reground the edge on.I know why Edutsi was upset with that.-vbeg-
I doubt it was as rough along the edge as some of the villagers used to be,but it took some stone work as well as some time on the buffer.I had a good time.
I just wish I hadn't of had the little med problem when I got in the middle of things.I do like to get things done when I take them on.

The good news is I have been off the drug for 9 days now.In another couple of weeks I should be doing even better.

Maybe it won't be to much longer and the Khukuris and me can be in the woods again.
smile.gif

I need to be.I am bigger around than Rusty's ( Kwuste's ) long sword blade is long, but not quite as big around as its' full length.hehehehe.

Oh!
I forgot to ask.
Edutsi what did you think about the balance on this Khukuri? I checked the cg and itwas about 4" in front of the bolster which is where the other one was too.
I don't think the big butt cap changed it at all,or at least not enough for me to notice. You are the best judge though and I wanted to be sure and ask you.

Dave,I would like your input when you get it also.

The 3 layers are 1/8" brass,3/16" copper, and 1/8" brass with the original keeper to finish it off.The butt cap alone is 7/16" thick!!!!

There would be many options to changeing some old ones out if it was wanted or neccesary.
When I finally decide for certain which one I am going to use All the time I may put a 3/8" steel one on it if possible.

Khukuri FAQ

That's gorgeous, Yvsa! Looks like one hell of a solid buttcap. I can't wait to see it up close.

Very nice of you to let me buy it after all the work that _you_ have put into it. As far as the waiting period goes, turnaround time was really pretty fast compared to most custom knife smiths, in spite of your being a bit under the weather, and the results look to be more than worth the wait.

Glad you are off the meds now too.

I know that at least in my case, I am already a hopeless khukuri addict and any prescribed drugs will just interfere with my addiction.

Yvsa: that's what I'd been meaning to write you on.

I keep having these visions of being in the plumbing section of the hardware store with all these different sizes of copper tube and elbows, to choose from for a bolster, then taking that wonderstone cabochon (with it's flakes of copper suspended in it) and taking it down to the right size for a buttcap..........

Oh, well, I've still got that little project to finish off once I get the right material........

¥vsa,

That is beauuuuuutiful work! And, perchance, could the Forum be looking at a potential ¥vsa Special

Oh, there's no doubt that the project you think I was talking about will get done right. Whether a certain Indin uses the wonderstone or the malachite cabochon. There's another, smaller, better suited to MY project cabochon or two down at the rock shop. If I do it right, you won't know it lessn' I tells ya, Unc Bill.

Yvsa, absolutely beautiful fit and finish on the buttcap. It shimmers just on the scan, so I could imagine how lovely it looks up close.

Rusty, Malachite has got to be one of my favorites too. I'm a sucker for its gorgeous variegated green hue. Maybe that's why I also love Native American Jewelry with its silver inlayed with turquoise, lapis, malachite, coral,
etc. Still regret not picking up a dazzling Zuni men's bracelet of sterling silver inlayed with a variety of stupendous gemstones in a geometric pattern almost 10 years ago(was like $300.00, but a heavy piece and worth it,but just didnt have it at the time, but boy I can can still see it in all its glory, with the sun shining off it and all).........Oh well, I'll have to go unsheathe my HI BAS for its almost tranquilizing effect.
Sorta like worrybeads.

Stay safe and all the best, Phil <-----<

Great job Yvsa!! Now I know where to send my khukuris if I ever have a problem with them , especially the buttcap. I also agree that steel would be a wise choice for the buttcap. --- Can't be certain, but it might make it much stronger I think.

Uncle Bill I believe you may have missed one of my questions above.
It is about the balance on the 20" Sirupati being affected by the large butt cap.Do you think it changed the balance or cg in any way? Putting this below too so you won't miss it.
smile.gif

Jay I am thinking about doing some of that, but I will have to see what goes on the next few months.
I do have 100% total disabiity on my back, but that doesn't mean I am dead yet.
smile.gif

I will have to be on strong pain killers the rest of my life or until someone finds a way to get around the injuries.I am thankful I can still walk and get around!!

The one medicine I was able to get off of has some horrific side affects. It affects many parts of the body and I am glad to be rid of it.
One of the worst affects is the weight gain and I have gained more than my share.I have the adult onset of systemic juvenile arthritis. It can be very devastating to the body, but I think I am nearing remission.WhOooo HOooo!!!
Hopefully I can get off some more medicines for this in the future.
Didn't want to air all my medical problems, but thought I might better explain some in case I start doing some repairs or refitting. Then there won't be any misunderstandings why I ain't workin any faster than I may be.

Khukuri FAQ

Sorry, Yvsa. Some days I am not all here.

I don't think that small amount of weight would affect the cg enough to notice it. I sure couldn't tell it by feel. We will ask Dave the same question and I'll bet he won't notice the difference.

I go to the VA for my ,dental,or whatever. Some idiot M.D. noticed that I am in condition orange there.I can lawfully wear a weapon on fed.propt.He prescribed Diazapam 10 years ago I like condition orange.I have yet to eat a pill. That would copmrimise my judjment. What Docs think, may not be what you think.Trust no one.

If you really need it,I would advise codiene sulfate.Opiates are the best drugs with the worst rep.,and no side effects. The govt. is about the only people who have the guts to prescribe them anymore.Morphine is a bit much. You would want it if you had a broken bone.I keep 3 styretts for a real emergency.I keep a standard field med.kit around.I might have to sew myself up.The last time,I used dental floss.Just 3 stitches.A mattress and 2 common.I put some gut suture in my kit after that. The dental floss worked fine. All disclaimers here.I am not an M.D.But,I have been wounded a lot, often far from an M.D.

Ghost, I respectfully disagree. Any drug does have side effects. To what extent depends on various factors: dosage, route, frequency, absorption, presence of other medications, disease states present, physiology, biochemistry of person involved, to name a few. Just part of my job.

Harry
