Swedish axe ±1600g I have put today this handle of nice ash on there. I was so pleased to get a good shape from the piece because it was such good wood in this case, resilient, very fibrous, all the best qualities, oh and sufficiently seasoned, bit of a lively form making for easy use that way. I have not felt a need to wedge this one yet.

The necessary grinding required to even out the severely worn-back toe.

It means much of the bit gone, I'll get to that though.
Butterfly construction with the socket form deviating somewhat from the norm of rounded, this one flat and elongated. (Makes me think of the recent video posted up by Steve Tall).

Strapped closure at the inside of the socket.

And now to get back to the edge insert of high carbon content steel.

Clearly a good deal still left to use up.

Thank you D.O. today was the day to put it for the first time to use because, you know, they always do say to get your workbench you need either a fortune or a workbench and I guess if you handle much something similar could be said for putting a handle on your axe, that you need a handled axe, or the money to get handles at the shop. I can't say this one is going to be a good one for that work, a bit heavy and the socket shape precluding a good one-hand grip, anyway up high. Still, I can think of plenty other uses.

Fine old axe returned to use Ernest! The workbench needs a workbench analogy is something I can relate to. Many of the axes that I have and keep in shape seem to be "axes to make other axes" (If I read your intention correctly lol).

Your Ash handle with that upsweep to it looks great. That particular axe isn't something I would bump into around here for sure.

According to Pirkei Avot, a classical Jewish text of the third century of the common era, the first pair of tongs were created by God right before God rested on the Seventh Day. The reasoning is that a blacksmith must use a pair of tongs in order to fashion a new pair of tongs. Accordingly, God must have provided humankind with the first pair of tongs.

So I suppose he also provided us with the first workbench.

Makes perfect sense to me!
That first workbench must have been quite a sight.
