My son took a shine to my personal edc, and asked if I would make him one. He's been sober for the past 9 months and seems to be on track longer than usual at this time, so I agreed. He said to not make it fancy, just make it tough and sharp.

Sorry about the pics.

It's 0.100 z-wear at Rc63/64, 0.005" before sharpening, sharpened at 10 dps, sharp clip, black g-10 guard, and dyed curly anigree handle. He wanted the as ground finish. Sheath is a basic pouch sheath.

I'm proud of my son. He's looking to become a millwright now that he's thinking clearer.

I really like this knife design. I've got 2 more nearly done.

Thanks for the kind words, and encouragement toward my son.

NICE, first thing I thought when I saw the shape was mako shark. I really like the lines on these.

Good for your son heading in the right direction. Hopefully the knife will be a constant reminder of a mind set.
I really like the z-ware knife I have. I've cut everything with mine and for a tool steel, it has good corrosion/stain resistance.

I've been using a few in the kitchen, and they don't patina like other carbon steels. I won't say stainless, but damn this steel ticks a lot of boxes (unless you are going for a hamon.) for wear resistance, toughness, fine edge stability, edge holding, and corrosion resistance.

Congrats on your sons sobriety. May he continue it day by day.
Love the knife design.
Reminds me i need to kick my edges thinner with that steel. You go so thin! Have a big chunk of Z-Wear coming in today, very excited.
I like how he said "nothing fancy", and you came up with that. It still looks awesome!

Quick update: my son has been accepted to an apprenticeship readiness course and is lining up a welding apprenticeship.

I have 6 z-wear blanks cut out from my last bar of z-wear matching the above knives. I'll be heat treating and grinding over the next few weeks.

I'm using edge thicknesses I previously only used on kitchen knives. I haven't had a single complaint regarding edge damage. I did have one chip, but I think I burned the edge with a dull belt, and once ground to good steel, no probe.

Update. My son had a lapse, missed two days of his program last week, but has been back on track since!!!!!!!
