I haven’t been able to make many knives since last fall, due to family health issues, but I was able to recently complete this little edc.

This one is 4” long 0.108” z-wear heat treated to Rc63, taken to 0.005” before sharpening at 15dps.
The guard is black g-10 with blue g-10 spacer. The handle is curly maple with a really nice fibrous appearance. It was dyed and stabilized by K&G. Sanded to 2500 grit, and finished with varnish oil and paste wax.

Sheath is pretty basic. I’m not so great at leather. It’s practise.

That curly maple and the blue G-10 Spacer go perfectly together. Ive been wanting to try some Z-wear myself, how does it hold up at 63rc?...ive heard its real tough stuff, some say even better than 3V
Great work

It’s a very impressive steel. Use it at Rc63, using cryo and low temper, rather than high temper. At lower hardness, (Rc60 and below) 3v is tougher. Above Rc62, z-wear is tougher. Excellent edge holding, and fine edge stability approaching Aeb-l or W2. I’m using kitchen knife geometry in edc knives.

That is a gorgeous knife. I wouldn’t mind another knife in Z-Wear. I’m still amazed how good it performs. I really like how stain resistant it is.

i like the guard, i need to try one in g10 soon.

I use it on most knives now. It’s great on kitchen knives, in front of a wood handle too, as it’s waterproof, and seals up nicely (and almost invisibly) with jb Kwik. It files quicker than metal options, saving time on fitup too.

Knives like these are why I saved your BF handle in my notes a while back after seeing the one your made for your son. Love the blade profile, and the scales really set everything off. Even the steel is perfect!

Thanks guys! I’m not great at a consistent belt finish, especially with this steel. I love the performance, but the finishing is quite difficult, compared to other similar steels.

I have some profiled in m390 that I hope to finish up before Christmas.
