Has anyone with a tanto zaan ever sent their knife to have a regular blade put on the knife.......

I have an older model tanto Zaan(11/09) that I bought new from TNK. I don't use the knife very much bc it's a tanto.

I called CRK today to find out how much they charge to replace the tanto blade with a regular blade. They charge $135.

I'm going to send my zaan in and have CRK put a regular blade on it.

I like the older model zaan Much better than the new model.

No but ive considered getting a damascus blade for my small.

do you get to keep the old blade? Id hope so.

I went the exact opposite. I got a Wilson Combat Startac that had the blade switched to a Tanto. I wanted to send it in to CRK for some centering issues and a Spa service but it was a no go because it had been modded. Fixed it myself (now it's perfect and centered) but it's good to know that they wont even touch it if it's been modded by anyone else.
They said if i wanted a new blade that they will issue a new birth card as well. They said they would send the old blade back to me

Just remember you will get the new jimping on the new blade.

I would love to find a Umnum with the old jimping, over travel, and old pivot. I know they are out there, just not been lucky enough yet. I'm pretty sure you can't do it on a Sebenza, I asked about getting an Insingo blade for one of my drop point smalls and it was a no go. I know you can get the same blade replaced though.

You will also be getting an S35V blade instead of your old S30V blade...

Thanks atony and 1SHOTKILL for your comments about the jimping and the s35vn steel. I like the old more aggressive jimping, much better than what looks like

21 style jimping.

If you're interested...I'd be willing to trade my regular for your tanto...you can see it in the above pics...your call. I already have another Zaan coming with the new pivot/S35Vn/CRK etched over travel button. You can never have too many :D

That sounds like a good trade to me. WIN-WIN

I would just sharpen out the "second point" on the tanto blade my self, unless you really want to keep that blade intact. The way CRK do their tanto blades makes that an option and an easy one. It would actually make for a rather nice knife, IMO. :)
