well, i have recently became addicted (an expensive addiction at that!) to CRK. started with a large sebenza 21, then a small sebenza 21. now i just bought a s30v umnumzaan from 2011 (without the lockbar overtravel piece). I hope this was a good decision. i do like the fact that the zaan is slightly beefier then the large sebbie. i like beefie blades.

anything i need to look out for on the 2 year old zaan? how will the CRK s30v hold up compared to the CRK s35vn? sorry for all of the newbie questions! thanks for input!

Congrats on a superb blade IMHO! I love my Zaan, and s30v should be about the same as s35v from what I hear. I don't have any of CRK's s30v, my CRK's all have s35vn and for my uses it does great. I can keep a screamin edge just by stropping on a Kangaroo strop loaded with .5u diamond spray

Nice grab on that Umnumzaan. It is a great knife. I regret having sold mine. I have an S30V Sebenza and the blade sharpens very well just using a Sharpmaker. Enjoy the knife.

Great purchase!
If your s30v Zaan is anything like my tanto s30v beater Zaan you'll be very happy with it, don't worry.
There shouldn't be any surprises but if its been well used and the o rings are saggy go to the hardware stir and get a new set or order some cool color or glow in the dark rings online. You're going to love how quiet it is when you open and close it. I carried mine for over two years as my edc before the 25 and a large Insingo took its spot, they're great knives.

Seems that you're really getting a nice collection together pretty quickly, just wait until you start with Damascus and mammoth ivory, oh, and the discontinued models- there's plenty to look forward to and yes, your bank account officially hates you now :)

Nothing to worry with on any zaan. I have the original Gen 1, I guess you could call it and its been fine. I do like the additions to the newer zaan thou like the CRK logo'ed lockbar stabilizer and the higher thumb release. I used to have three of them, my original, a tanto zaan and the Wilson Combat zaan. The original I have used for everything under the sun, everything from food prep to whittling, to cutting tar paper and shingles and she is fine. Just some scratches is all......The tanto zaan was nice as well, but for me, other than slicing, which the tanto excelled at, there is limited uses with the tanto blade. I did ponder going at it with the sharpmaker and making my very own spanto zaan, but sold it before I did so....lol............The Wilson Combat, I loved the look and new features ( pre lockbar stabilizer ) including the raised lock release, which definitely aided in unlocking it. But for me, when gripping the WC Zaan, those grooves machined into it bit into my hand something awful. Some have agreed with me, some didn't, but for me, it was just a deal killer for me and I sold it. The Machining on the WC Sebenza has wider grooves, While the machined grooves on the WC Zaan are closer making them sharp. Look at both side by side and you will see immediately what I mean. If CRK made the grooves like the WC Sebenza, I would get one right away................

All had S30V and were just fine. I have had tons of CRK with S30V and all have been perfect. I have had all 4 blade steels CRK has used in the Sebenza & Umnumzaan and find S30V to be my favorite and have never had an issue with it like others have had.

So I am down to the lone original zaan, which I will be posting pics shortly once I find my camera of the addition added to it ( long promised for atony ). Its the only knife that made me for some time stop carrying my Large Regulars. That has since changed and I am back to carrying my favorites, those Large Regulars. The zaan is still close by though....!!!

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed this^^^......well said.

My first CRK was a Zaan, and I doubt that I'll ever let it go, although I gone through many, many Sebbies. I think all of mine have been S30V, and they're all great. I've never kept a fancy one very long, and am restricted now to several Classics and one Regular, although I'm always...lookin'.
The Zaan is my favorite design. The blade-shape is great.

That's a great pic Sonny!
I use my CRK's in the kitchen very often and your pic made me start to think about some homemade salsa for some reason; now I need to see if I have any chips ;D
