Long time reader first time post

can the sheath for the timberline zambezi be worn on the small of back?

ultimately i am looking for a heavy duty knife with a great grip (i believe with all of the high end steel these days the grip is the most important factor) and 440c is good enough for me., i dont want it any bigger than 6", so the zambezi seems to fit perfectly,

but that damn sheath,
i really want to try a samll of back, b/c i dont like a long sheath hanging half way down my leg, when im working.

that reminds me, the knife will be used around a cattle ranch in central texas and while camping.

any other suggestions?

as this is my first post, ive got that good/nervous feeling, i cant wait to log back on and see the replies

you have all helped me so much in the past and didnt even know it,

thanks in advance.

I've only seen a few, but the other Timberline sheaths I've seen were all set up for vertical or horizontal carry. Chances are this one will too. If not you can always get a third-party sheath from Eagle, Maxpedition, or Blackhawk that will work for around $15.

I've got a Zambezi. The sheath has many different attaching points. You should be able to use the slots on the sheath to run the leg straps that come with the knife to make a horizontal belt loop. I really like mine alot. It is an overlooked knife in my opinion.:)

all right im in north west houston texas where can i get one, or another knife like the zambezi with a good handle but mabye a slight bit smaller that can ride small of back

I've checked out the Zambezi at a few shows and have almost bought one a couple times. It seems like a lot of knife for the money, but it's probably the sheath that has kept me from buying it. I suppost it would be easy enough to get a custom Kydex sheath made by On Scene Tactical or if you like leather maybe Likter can help you out.

It seems like a real nice and useable knife at a good price, but then there so many others......

You might be able to find a Becker or Swamp Rat in that price range to suit your needs for a tough utility knife.

Since you are in Texas, I'd be very careful with the Zambezi. She is a bit longer than Texas' legal length of 5-1/2".

You want something concealable? You want something Texas-legal?

Al Mar SERE Operator in S30V steel.
I bought two from New Graham.
I have one now in a Survival Sheath Single Shoulder Sheath Light. After Christmas I shall get a Double Shoulder Sheath light.
I go home to Texas quite a bit. I like to stay "legal" there.

The Zambezi is a great knife -- you'll be happy you bought it. I think the sheath would be a little cumbersome on the small of the back, but there are plenty of kydex makers (Normark) that can custom make one to fit your needs.

A lemon. IMO find some other knife. The sheath sucks - you have to look everytime you resheath it so you don´t happen to poke through the straps/beltloop system. The knife has an edge angle close to a rail road spike. I can´t think of any other use of it than as a tent spike or splitting wood (together with a big hammer). IMO, YMMW etc. and so fort.

I got rid of it ASAP. Obviously as you can see in some other posts in this thread other people seems to like it. It didn´t work for me.

thanks execution style,

i guess that particular blade is a 1/2 inch too long

that puts me back to square 1
i desperately want a good handle, and a thick blade, and partially serrated, ive looked at Becker but cant find one partially serrated,

what are some other options that fit this criteria.

how about the becker bk2 companion or bk10 crewman

good grip?

I also need to apologize for not reading your post better. I am not a lawyer, but you might be able to use long blades in those work/camp related situations. I'd say go to WWW.FINDLAW.COM and do some research, or go buy a copy of the Penal Code and study up on it.
