Finally took the time to build something for myself. Last time I did this is around 3 years ago. I used the crap out of that knife but ended up selling it. The stock was too thick for me in the end. (5.5mm M390 steel back then).
This one is a little different. More than 50% of the materials on this knife were gifts to me personally. And I'll elaborate on it a little.
The word Zawadi (if I'm to believe Google) is Swahili (one of the main languages spoken in the Congo Area) for "Gift".
The Bladesteel is forged by Maarten van Hattem. It was gifted to me for my birthday a while ago.
The scales are basically heirloom to me. I made them from a (very nice) Warthog tusk that my grandparents (now deceased) gave my father who passed it on to me.
My grandparents spent 18 months doing missionary work for our church in (a back then) Zaire. They taught people about Christ, helped them set up their lives, start buisinesses and organised several churchbranches. They had a multitude of amazing stories and great love for the people they were with during that time. Years later they ran in to a man they knew from their time in the country who told them that their work and service had impacted and touched the lives of generations of people there.
2 out of 4 types of leather used in the sheath were gifted to me by a gentleman who resides in the US. We've never met in real life. But Always enjoyed conversing online.
The Front pin was custom made for me. And as you can see the background lights up blue(ish) in the dark.
So Damascus, red liner (over a tapered tang), Warthog scales, logo pin, aluminium lanyard tube.
Rounded spine, rounded area at index finger.
Sheath made from Cow, Kangaroo, Snake and Pig skin.
Enjoy!
