Are there any custom knife makers that work with this new material. or is it too early?

A group of us are trying to acquire some...but Hitachi (the manufacturer) typically does not sell to knifemakers...only to knife manufacturers.

I think they're extremely selective as to who they allow to heat treat the metal. If I'm not mistaken, they wouldn't even allow Spyderco to do the HT on their own blades.

Well, if other manufacturers don't jump on the bandwagon, Hitachi might just sell to anybody. So far only two big name makers, and no hints from others. Wow, Buck should have it for their Mayo-Buck TNT. ZNT ! :D

William Henry ZDP is way harder than Spydie. Up to 67Rc!!! Anyone know why the difference?

i might be wrong but i dont think being 67rc is necessarily good for a knife

Depends on the knife, for a small utility blade meant for cutting and not chopping and twisting/prying, generally higher hardness gives better performance in several areas.

Do you have the heat treatment details?

Yes - same as ATS34 (obviously as they have it laminated by ATS-34). I already post it in different thread and Phil Willon will be able to do this - I already clearified this unfortunately I can not find time to grind that blank yet.

Thanks, Vassili.

Thanks for the link, Phil does a lot of ATS-34, or did anyway, so you can ask him how his standard heat treat for that compares.

I wonder if they're just froggy after the problems some S30V knives were reported to have with the initial sharpenings and edge damage.
