Everything I have read rates this blade tops! How come only two manufacturers, William Henry & Spyderco are using it? I understand only one place in Japan supplies the material. Are they limiting sales? I like the William Henry but too expensive.

Don't worry, the other knife companies will soon follow suit and begin producing their blades out of ZDP-189. They'll realize that us knife nuts will just have to have the new WONDER STEEL. Guess my knives with S30V are junk now. Throwing them in trash, must have ZDP-189 must have must have...must have! Here I come Spyderco and NGK :p

ZDP 189 is not a "new" steel. I have seen reports dating from 1989 on this material. It's latest use by some of the larger makers is giving it a revival.

Cowry-X is similar, 3% carbon, 20% Cr, and very hard 64+ HRC. Fallkniven uses this and a simple search will turn it up in various custom knives.

Funny you should ask....Spyderco released the Caly Jr. in ZDP-189 three days ago. Price is around $65.
