I'm looking to get something in a folded ZDP blade. Is william henry the only ones offering it right now? Obviously I'd like to pay less than what theyre asking but I'm not going to cheap out.

How much difference is there between the folded blades and the forged blank style in this metal?

If you will be patient you will see other manufacturers coming out with knives made from this steel by the end of the year. I know Spyderco is planning on an offerring to be released in a month or so. They issued a model called Calypso Jr with a blood red handle and ZDP steel blade that was sandwiched between some lesser stainless blades made from something like 440-A or AUS-6. They were expensive and I think the collectors have snatched most of them up.

The Spyderco Calypso Jr. has a maroon FRN handle and a sandwiched blade with a core of ZDP-189. There were 1500 made in a sprint run last fall and thewy sold out very quickly. They sold for about $65 from most Internet dealers. Most people use their Calys as I do, as EDCs although I am sure that many have been stored away as collector pieces. The value of the knife is as a user. And, yes, Spyderco is bringing out a sprint run of ZDP-189 Delicas in March. If you want one, you will need to move fast, as they will sell faster than the Callys did.

There is going to be a Delica in ZDP-189 coming out, hopefully in March. And then there is going to be the Jess Horn in ZDP as well, at some point. The Calypso, Jr. is an AWESOME little knife!!

Is the spyderco a folded blade or just sandwiched? Is the nonfolded blade as much of a light saber as the folded ones? I really dont care for lock backs but I can take that over paying $200 more for a button folder.

The Calypso Jr. in ZDP is AWESOME and a great bargain at $65. The ZDP is sandwich style. It may be the sharpest folder around, period. The Caly Jr. is an ergonomic classic design and the folder is cool in any steel. Mine is a safe queen. Way to go Spyderco.

I agree that the Calypso is a classic design and one of the sharpest stainless steel folders around. I particularly like the edge geometry, it's even better than that of the VG-10 Calypso Jr. However, when you compare it to decent carbon steels things look quite different. I'm also not yet sure about ZPD-189. I had some issues with chipping initially, and I'd like to see what it's like over an extended period of time before I come to a firm conclusion.

Ergonomically the Calypso is certainly still one of the best folders around, at least for my hands, but things have moved on. The UK Penknife, for instance, has got a better handle in my opinion.

I have used mine very hard, but for light duty, i.e., no chopping, prying, or similar sorts of things, and I have had not problems.

Yes, but there are none for sale at this time. Maybe on the "Bay" for $250.

Mine sees a lot of pocket time and use, especially now since I've upgraded the handle to a stronger beefier titanium. ZDP189 is a great blade steel, and keeps a super edge for a very long time. It isn't just hype. The steel works.
The W&H folders are very well made using top of the line materials. The fit and finish is excellent. I'm not a big fan of the button lock but they work for many guys. Its the best gents knife around.

My question really is do you notice any difference between the spyderco blade and a william henry blade. Forget the handles and actions and all that. Id really like to compare just the folded blade of the WH to what most likely is a blank of zdp with 420j2 laminated to it in the spyderco.
