So I did the zebra 402/701 mod and I have absolutely fell in love with it. Anyway my problem is I hate the own ink cartridge. I know everyone loves the space pen cartridge but I don't like how they write. Is there a good ball point cartridge that writes good. Also I think we should start calling this mod the Zebra 503 ;)

I did a couple of those last year too, great combination of parts. Its a bit surprising that Zebra doesn't just make it as a model.

Pilot g2 inserts are well regarded, not sure they'll fit without modifying.

Thanks for the thread! I've thought about doing this but never got around to it...until 5 minutes ago.

Have you tried the fine point Fisher Space pen refills? They seem to write smoother than the mediums that come with their pens. I usually carry a Rite in the Rain clicky with the fine point and the F701(now F503) with a blue Zebra refill. This combo works for me.

Gotcha. Now that I think about it I had drilled/reamed the 701 tip on mine to take the G2s, and used the 402 tip with the Zebra insert.

jkwithawave jkwithawave Yeah I had seen the mod done also but never really though of doing it until I saw the 2pack of 402 on Amazon for $7. Went ahead and got them and did the the 503 mod (like to see it catching on) on two 701s. Really there is no need in heating up the 402 like I've seen before to get the clicker out, just take a thin piece of rubber between your pliers and it screw right out. IMHO it is a beautiful pen. I'll check out a fine point in the space pen refill.

EricV EricV Yeah if zebra would make one they would sale well I would think but then again they would have made a really good pen that would last to long.
