Guys, please take a look at these two pictures and tell me if my eyes are going funny. Does one look like three distince colours? If so is it a 3 steel Damascus or perhaps a different etching process? Any help appreciated.

My guess is either bad photography on one of them, or the zebra damascus is sometimes made with only two steels. The three steels are most like 1080, 15n20, and nickel, or similar. The dark steel is 1080, the grey is 15n20, and the bright is nickel.

Man, that Mnandi from KnifeArt.com is beautiful. I've been lusting over it for several months. I wish I had the funds. :( ;)

Yeah I thought it may have been bad photography but I found another today at true north knives so I guess it has to be three different steels. Sure is purty though :)

Hello all,

Here is the breakdown of the components used to get the look of this steel. Yes, it is three materials.

1084 – high carbon steel in powder form
4600E – also in powder form, this has less carbon and bit of chrome
Pure nickel – which is what makes the shiny contrast zebra stripes.

Take care, Neil
