Hi Everyone,

I'm still trying to find one of these at a price I can afford.
Now I see there is more than model? One with a glass breaker on the clip and one without?
Are there any other differences between them?
If there is .. what is the model number?

Thank You

The model number is the same (IIRC)

Start a thread in the Want To Buy section and scour ebay. They still pop up occasionally and vary in condition to slightly used to still brand new. Jut like any popular knife that is discontinued, you will pay a premium for it, no way around it other than having a really good friend take pity on you or having something really desirable to trade for it.

Or get super lucky........Like me :D :p

No difference other than the little thimble thing on the clip. Same length and same model number. They did change the later clips on the knives and their placement to be a touch deeper. You could just send in your knife with the old placement and they would fix it free of charge, naturally.

So can you tell by the absence of the glass breaker which clip you have? Or is there a number on the clip for old vs. new?

Its definetly not a glass breaker! Its designed to look like a pen since its deep carry and it aids in retrieval from the pocket!

It is threaded on I believe on the early clips. And the older clips are straight clips without any holes or threads in them.

Mine is an older clip.

Same here, mines older.

Have any of you guys had or heard of the neoprene used in this knife deteriorating? After some research, I'm reading that neoprene has a 5-7 year lifespan.

Can you feel the neoprene on the hawk lock? Or anywhere else when you hold the knife?

Thanks

I thought the knife used polyurethane.
You can see it on the pivot.

Most of your research thus far as been a tad bit off though, I wouldn't fret too much.

Your information is likely for neoprene wetsuits exposed to harsh salt water. I think it would have a long service life as a sealed gasket. I know I have neoprene mousepads around that are 20 years old and other than being gross with dirt are like new.

You are correct as wetsuits were the first thing that came up when doing my search for neoprene. I'm not sure if opening and closing the knife would compare to the lifespan of a mouse pad but you also make a interesting point there about it collecting dirt.

Thanks for the info.

I still don't think it's neoprene, because in bladehq's G&G hawk video, they said they used urethane.
