Hello friends, this is my first post, but I've been reading the forums for a long time. I have a question for Zero Tolerance 0550 owners, what generation of the knife do you own, and what's the blade number on it? The reason I'm asking this is because I want to buy a ZT 0550 in Russia, but they don't know what generation it is, but they know the blade number: 4229. Thank you in advance, and sorry if I posted this on the wrong podforum, seemed like right one to me :)

It will be the one with the ti side cut out turned outwards. Not the first model where it's smooth facing put. I don't know if it would have the steel insert on the lockbar though, but the seller should be able to tell you that.

Its a great knife. I am usually not a thumb flipper fan but once you get the hang of it this one is super smooth. You may or not be aware there is a DLC coated option! the 0550BLK

With that serial number, it's gotta be a Gen 2. I don't think it has the steel lockbar insert, but go ahead and ask anyway.

The 0550 is a wonderful knife, regardless of the generation. It's a tough cat that's ready for work.

Thank you so much for the answers people! I've managed to find a generation 3, and I've ordered it!

Well, looks like the sale won't go trough, Russian mail sucks big time. What do you guys think about generation 2, is it worth getting or is the gen 3 much better? I was looking at 0566 too, seems like a good knife, does anyone have that one, and how are you satisfied? Sorry for broadening the tread :)

I had a gen 2 (without lockbar insert) that developed lock rock in not very much time. Granted, I played with it way too much as it was my first ZT and my first framelock, so I definitely think a lot of it was my fault for flicking it way too much and closing it in such a way that the frame rubbed unnecessarily against the blade, but I was still very glad when I sent it in to ZT and it came back with a gen 3 lock side on it.

As for the 0566, it's the knife that kicked my 0550 out of my pocket. I loved it, especially after I de-assisted it. It's much much thinner than the 0550 and therefore carries much better IMO. I've since moved on to a 0562 which is a cut above both of these IMO, but I still have my 0566. I did sell my 0550 though.

Yeah, that's what freaks me out. The problem is I live in Serbia, and my friend from Russia will bring the knife to me from there, so my purchase is final, can't send it back or anything, so I really need something that is proven as a good knife with no hidden problems. Kinda seems to me that 0566 would be a better choice, since I don't really need a tank like 0550, and it seems 0566 doesn't have that issue (lock rock).

Just recevied a gen 3 today and I am very impressed by the knife
It definitively over perform my ZT0350s which I was used to,love a lot!

But I understand the improvement on the gen 3 , and I think it was needed

Ask your friend if the knife has a deep carry clip and a black screw on the lockbar near to the edge....
The screw on the lockbar hold the steel insert that is specific to the gen 3
