So I had bought a ZT 0350 and just didn't really like it much. Just too big for me. I really wanted to go with ZT, so I did some research and came up with the 0566. I received it in the mail today and I must say... This knife just feels great in the hand. Its a really good size and its thin. I ended up going with the blackwash G-10 version... was gonna go Carbon Fiber, but I knew I would probably be swapping scales before long, so I thought I'd save a little bit of money and just go with the G-10.
My only complaint is boy is this thing stiff. I couldn't get the thing to flip using the flipper when I took it out of the box... is the trick just to either de-assist or just keep flipping it and it will loosen up?

I plan on getting some Allen Putman scales and some titanium bronze hardware for it.
I really do want to de-assist it, but when I de assisted my 0350 I could never get the blade centered... probably just my lack of knowledge, but just don't want to take it apart just yet...

Other than that, I think this knife is going to be a keeper!

I have the 0566 and I had the same concerns you did when it was new. Fear not, with some use it will loosen up a bit and you can de-assist it and if you don't like it then easily re-assist it. I have no issues with the centering. I wont lie, I had some growing pains with it but it is now a fantastic knife. It flips open smoothly and quickly and the blade is always centered. I have thought about getting some anodized hardware as well but I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I think I am going to De-Assist it tonight and see how I like it. My main issue with taking it apart is blade centering. Right now its perfect, I did however just read a great tutorial on here on how to get it back centered, so I think I am ready to take it on.
I De-assisted my 0350 and could never get it to work smoothly. SO hopefully, I will have less trouble with this one.

I really do like this knife a lot though.

I had issues with getting mine to be smooth after I de-assisted. For a while I was frustrated but after while it began to get smoother and smoother, now its great.

If it's brand new and you de-assist you may not be able to get it to flip great. As it wears in it will get smoother and start flipping better. You can help this along by polishing the washers and using good lube when you disassemble it. I found that newer ones tend to de-assist better than the older ones, not sure why. I had one a year or so ago that wouldn't flip well for crap, no matter what I did. I eventually figured out the liner under the scale was slightly bent, not sure how it got that way but if you laid it on a flat surface you could tell. After I straightened it out it was like butter.

I have the 0566 and I put the orange Allen Putman scales on mine. Looks awesome. I would leave the spring in and give it a chance to work it's self in. It will get smoother. The key to the assisted flipper is to press from the base of the flipper, if that makes since. If you put your finger right on the tip of the flipper, it is much more difficult.
I have de-assisted mine in the past and it was nice and smooth with a great firm detent holding the blade in perfectly. No worries, it will re-assemble and be centered just like it was before taking the spring out. Mine now has the spring back in....more fun that way.

Thats what I did and once the "break in" occurs its been super smooth ever since.

Sounds like a plan. I am just one of those guys that's loves to tinker with things. I am already itching to upgrade all the hardware and order some scales for it. I will just leave the torsion bar and just open it as much as my fingers will let me before they get raw :)

I have a 0566 and when it was new it was all I could do to get it to flip open. It definitely took some break-in time but after the first few weeks it was OK and then after the first couple of months it was perfect. I love the action on mine now. I've had it about a year. I have no intention of ever de-assisting it.

Just to echo everyone, keep it as is, play with it and it will get easier and smoother. once it is- then if you don't like it assisted- deassist it, but give it some time.

I got the g10 blackwash as well, the only change I made on it was the pocket clip. I dislike the deep carry clip- I can't get a comfortable grip on it when pulling it out. I carry it IWB-tip down.

I was messing around with the 0566 last night and I de assisted it..... I just plain do not like it being AO. The blade lined up perfectly and it feels pretty smooth for it be a new knife. I lubed up around the washers... didn't take those out and polish them or anything (might do that later on or might do the XM-18 washers mod)

My fingers are so sore right now, from flipping it yesterday before I de assisted it.

I really wanna change out the scales to those Allen Putman Anso scales, but I am afraid they are much thinker than the g-10 that comes on the 0566 and I really like how thin this knife is (compared to my other knives)

I also bent my clip back a bit to relieve a bit of pressure on the frame lock and I think I bent it back a little too much and now it needs to be pushed back down a bit. Might end up swapping clips out anyways...

Looking around at different mods... anyone upgraded the washers? I saw where a guy upgraded his, but he used JB weld or Epoxy to fill in the spring assist cavity as well as around the pivot area. Anyone just upgraded the washers and nothing else and found it to be helpful?

Where are you guys finding these washers locally?

Unitethe7-The Putman scales are really no thicker than the G10 that comes on them. Nothing to worry about there:thumbup:
I just took these pics for you. I hope it's helpful.

Couldn't find the bronze washers locally, so I ordered them from USAknifemakers. I also ordered the neon green Allen Putman scales and some purple titanium standoffs... Going for a Joker theme with this knife... But now I need to decide on the handle screws. I was originally thinking bronze, but don't know how well they would look with green and purple. Wish I could get some black anodized titanium handle screws. I just like the bigger look of the titanium handle screws.

What do you guys think?

The Putman scale is not much thicker, if any over the stock G10.
Bronze washers? Are they exact fit?

Yeah, Look up the washer upgrade for the ZT 0566. they are not the same size as the stock ones which is why some people will fill around the pivot area with epoxy or JB weld to give the entire face of the washer support.
