Between the two of these witch one would you buy. Both look very nice but the zt seems to have more for the money. The 761 has m390 witch is nice but other than that the 0801 is cheaper and has the lock bar insert , seems beefyer too.

You might check to see if any dealers still have the 0801S110V. It costs more than the standard 0801, but it has a S110V blade and different styled handles. It's still about $50 less than the 761. In Ankerson's edge retention tests, S110V has shown better edge retention when cutting abrasive manilla rope than M390.

the difference isn't quality, but in the specifics you desire.
801 = bulkier, flipper only, tip-up only
761 = sleeker, thumbstud only, tip-down only
I found the handle shape of the 801 to be a little short/uncomfortable in my L-XL hands so I sold mine. Otherwise it was excellent.
I think the 761 looks more comfortable in the hand

I've handled them both quite a bit. I'd go 0801, because the pocket clip of the 761 kills my desire to own an otherwise awesome folder. Tip down only and I don't like the feel or look of the clip.

That's a tough one. I prefer tip down and thumb studs, but like the index finger groove and thicker stock of the ZT. I'd have to go with a hybrid love child.
No help here.

Regarding the feel of the 761 in hand:

The big chamfers are very well done, so the handle feels "soft" instead of jamming into the hand in weird places. The clip placement makes the handle fattest at the top, and the handle is pretty straight. Between those details and the relationship of the blade to the handle, the edge isn't oriented forward in a hammer grip. It obviously works just fine (same orientation as the Sebenza), but people who favor canted edges may not love it.

Personally, I favor a forward orientation. The 0801 feels better to me.

I see 0.120" blade thkness, and 0.420" handle thkness, M390 at a good hardness, and 4.36 oz....Benchmade. It is tip-down only.
I see 0.160" blade thkness, and 0.510" handle thknss, Elmax and 5.85 oz....ZT
Both folders have titanium grips.

The closed lengths are about the same. The BM's blade is a bit longer than I prefer. I've owned a few Benchmades and a ton of ZT's.
If I'll be in the woods...or ripping through drywall for a living, I'll take the ZT. IMO, it shows much greater heavy-duty capability.
If I have more casual carry needs, I'll go with the very comfortable Benchmade.

The above specs are ALL very important when choosing an EDC. However, so is the PRICE.
When I see the $331 compared with the $192, then it's a game-changer.

It's IMPOSSIBLE to compare these two...you can only CONTRAST them.
The drastic price difference separates them completely...

As Flarp said above, check for availability of S110V in the ZT...

Both great knives. Id have to go for the 0801 for the price. And if i were looking to spend closer to the same price id find an 0801 s110v. I guess its ultimately up to you though for what you want out of it.

found this... pretty interesting on the 761... i will not be buying this knife. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buAj1g65x_k

That video has been plastered in the Benchmade section, not sure what the point is. It's one person's opinion, nothing more, not the be all, end all word on the matter. I think the 761 looks great for what it is. Remember, youtube videos usually are made with a bias in mind. Very, very few have been good to the point of being called great. I have not handled the 761, but I do own several versions of the 801, I would like to try the 761 but it might not happen.

Tough call,

They are very different to me in the hand so it's a hard comparison. The 761 feels much more rounded, thinner, nimble in the hand and noticeably lighter, though I don't think the 801 is bad in that respect it's certainly not blocky and doesn't have any sharp edges. I believe the 761 would be a better slicer with the thinner blade, not that the 801 is bad there either. I did just get my first 801 in the S110v and it's a great knife. I just think they would appeal to very different user preferences.

For me it's easy, I want dual thumb studs, a solid detent (appears to be a lot of reported variation on the 761), and tip up carry. If the 761 had those 3 things I'd own one.

I'm a big Benchmade fan and love the Axis lock but the 761 just seems way over priced for what you get. I would go with the ZT all the way between these too.

FWIW, I saw Theapostlep's video before handling the 761. I did a shake test, and the blade didn't fall open.
